Ok all...I know speech is such a big deal for most of us, including myself but while Collin has come such a long long way in the last 6 months this is about to drive me crazy and I don't have far to go!!! If I hear "WHY" 1 time a day I hear it a thousand and no matter what I say as the answer its never good enough because he come back with "BUT WHY" UGH!!! So I have turned the tables on him and started asking him WHY...Yikes!!! he has now started telling me "CAUSE" UGH!!! HELP!!! it's driving me NUTS and he thinks it's a joke!!! Connie

Oh Connie Dear,
Sorry but I have to ROTFL here because Emily (non DS) is 6 and still asks WHY? a gazillion times. It's her curiosity I am sure, but sometimes I am convinced that she does it to agravate me.
But here is a thought on Collin, maybe he is so excited that he is getting a response from you that he keeps doing it. It's like the first time Katie does anything, like oh sing Happy Birthday for instance, we heard it for two weeks straight.. I mean over and over and over and over and over... sighhhhhhhh and now its the Pledge of Allegiance... who da thunk?
They are so happy to be verbalizing something and having us respond. Maybe you could move onto another phrase??
But enjoy the verbalization, even though it can drive me completely insane, I am thankful to hear words and sentences and songs and YES even questions coming out of Katie's mouth.
Good Luck!!!
Hugs,
Cathy

Well, I think along the lines like Cathy and expand your answers. When my girls went through this, most currently, Reece... I make HER help me with the answer of "why". I have always entertained my girls and their conversation and WHY doesn't usually bother me.. but I do feel that way about knock knock jokes on occasion LOL. I LOVE the questions that come out of Reece's mouth and how her brain work. My MIL probably wishes she didn't talk so much though LOL. Since Regan wasn't a talker, and Russell doesn't talk, I am loving the conversations with Reece. She loves to ask ME questions she knows the answers to, kinda like the WHY thing.. so I just turn it around for her to answer. I think it's great Collin is facilitating a conversation with questions with you! I know it drives you batty but I would just expand on that. Maybe not ask him WHY but say.. "I don't know Collin, can you help me figure out why such and such does that?". Or something along that lines. Either he will try to help you or he will soon find out it's too much work to ask you why and stop LOL. And he will stop with this RIGHT before Lauren starts up with you! heehee A.

I have to say that we would welcome that "why" phase from Jason. I know, it would probably drive me crazy if it were to actully happen, but I can wish for it right now!!
Honestly, I think that Jason would be further along cognitively if he could have went through the "why" stage. He has never had a give and take conversation where he learns anything. He can only accept what we tell him - and we are just assuming we understand what he wants to know - KWIM - we are truly never answering HIS questions about things? I look at that stage, for every child, as a huge part of development and learning.
So . . . when Collin is driving you nuts . . . well, give him a big kiss! LOL
