Well... I am starting to get all sentimental on this transition.. those bittersweet emotions are starting. Our IEP is tomorrow AM. With no complications (and none we can all see right now) this will all be done tomorrow and on his way to the new school. And except for working out bussing... we are sure I can start taking him probably pronto... once we sign that IEP...it's a done deal. happy and sad.
I had a nice talk with Russell's current teacher on the phone after school today.. and the new teacher did come to observe Russell. I was thinking we asked her with such late notice, that it wouldn't pan out for her to observe him prior to the IEP. But it worked out. And I am glad.. I felt very strongly this needed to be done but we were kinda pressed for time once the date was set. Lori talked with the new teacher for about an hour.. she got to see Russell in class and in Music class and realised he was like NIGHT and DAY in both different settings. (hence, the Music Therapy that is in the works.) She got to see him on the playground too. So.. it was a good meeting.
Lori and I talked about the IEP tomorrow and just went over again, the wants and needs of Russell. I then turned emotional on her LOL... I realised it was getting to be that time... and when it's time, can I come in and we do a "send off" for Russell with the kids... that I would like to see the kids and help explain where Russell is going. I form all these emotional bonds with all these kids, parents (well some of them LOL) and teachers and therapists and admin people.. and I am truly happy he is getting replaced but OH SO SAD to have to say Goodbye yet again. His teacher this year is great and I truly appreciate all the time she has tried to spend with him. And the school as a whole is awesome! Lori said she is a party kinda gal LOLOL.. and even if it's quick notice... we will throw a "going away party" for Russell ;D That sounds nice!
So.. I am kinda sad tonight.. knowing the end is near... and a new beginning is on the horizon for us.....
