Hi everyone! I have been reading some past threads recently on how congested our little ones seem to get in the winter time. Andrew seems to start in September and last year was not better until May. I mean the goopy nose, congestion, ear infection the whole nine yards. And yup...you guessed it....we're at it again. It seems to have taken alittle longer this year (around October) and I'm wondering if that's because we had such a mild fall. Soo....I was thinking (I know...scary when I think) if Andrew does better in the warmer weather, do those of you who live in warmer climates have trouble with colds and congestion for long periods of time also? Or do your little ones get over colds faster? And do your kids get alot of ear infections...or does the colder weather also make that worse? Just curious. -Trisha

Well, I saw your other post but I will say, we use to live in CA until Russell was 3 1/2 and now we live in MO. Russell's congestion and SNOT nose stuff was out of control when we lived in CA. Again, he has chronic reflux and we (us, docs and PT) thought MILK was aggrevating things even more, kinda like having a bit of milk allergies... so we even took him off milk for a year or two. We were living at the peds with Russell's congestion and coughs for the longest time... and everytime we went in, they said it was nothing.. just him. I asked our GI doc and he said due to Russell having chronic reflux (and his always came all the way out constantly) he is more "wet" inside and will have all these coughs. So... after that, I stopped taking him to the docs for coughs and learned that it was just Russell. It has gotten better since he is older now. Remember, Andrew is 19 months old and is still getting his body and immune system "seasoned" Seems Russell's stuff tapered off alot after he was around 5. He still gets colds that linger and that nasty cough but not as much. And I STILL have to explain to everyone that just meets him that no, he does not have croup, bronchitis or pneumonia LOL Russell has only had 2 ear infections in his whole life. We are one of the lucky ones... he just wasn't prone to them as most kids w/DS are. He has never had tubes put in his ears either. Recently one of our docs said now that he is 7, the likelyhood of him getting a bunch of ear infections and/or needing tubes is unlikey. So.. I will knock on wood! Hugs!!! a.

Chris is 12 soon to be 13 and I kid you not from September till May/June for years actually till this year, what you describe was Chris We had his tonsils and adenoids out, at the advise of the ent, no change He was put on a antibiotic one time a day, as a preventative, from September till May/June and that did help tons I will say BUT all the Docs thought for sure he would grow out of it by now but he didn't All the docs, ped and ent were getting concerned bout all the antibiotics Chris was on over the years, so one Doc said try this... Nasonex (prescription) nose spray once daily and OMG odd as it is, was the answer. Why I have no idea but he gets the spray one time daily and I am able to honestly tell you it WORKED ;D I have no idea if this will work for you, just wanted to share our experience BEST of Luck I can sooooo relate. Nasonex.....is that for allergies or asthma? I think I'll ask my Ped about this and see what he says. I'll try anything to help this poor little kiddo out. I feel so bad for him. Thanks!!! A.... thanks for the input....I couldn't have asked for anyone better to respond than someone who lived in Calf. I am curious about the reflux also since Andrew spits up alot. Thanks!
