This isn't such a pretty question, but I feel confident bringing it here to all of you. Jelani has had "different stools" for a week now...let's just say think peanut butter, ???sorry but the best description I can find. It's not all at once, it's little by little at a time every hour and he's using diapers like they're going out of business. I've given him plenty of liquids and tried to bulk up with rice or potatoes and then just waited to see of it was something he had eaten but it's still thick and not at all formed. His doc's appt isn't till early next month and I don't think I can wait that long.
Is this something I should get a referral to a GI for? I'm concerned because it's so out of the ordinary and his diet has been the same, and he's happy and healthy except for a nasal congestion thing. But the yuckiness of it all is getting to be more of a health concern for me than anything else. Have you had this happen and what could it be???
Any replies appreciated.
D~

I'm sorry, I just cannot offer any ideas on this. I just wonder if he is going through some type of virus that is effecting his sinus and bowels? KWIM? I sure do hope he starts feeling better really soon!

My son was born with imperforate anus and struggles with stool consistency and constipation. He sees a specialist at Children's Hospital who has a lot of information online- Dr. Pena. To bulk up Gabe's stool we give him pectin- like the stuff you use in jellies. Also little tummies laxative. It is really helping with the consistency. We give him 1tsp of pectin a day.

thanks all for the great info! I'll try the pectin, if anything his nails will grow faster! Right now I'm giving 1tsp mineral oil in his juice and it seems to be working, his scarey flu symptoms have almost disappeared, he may actually get to go to school tomorrow after missing 3 days.

Well, Russell's poops are usually "marbles" or "thingyaballs" as my mom lovingly refers them too LOL BUT.... or should I say BUTT LOL ..... Russell's poops can also be JUST like peanut butter and there isn't anything wrong with him Heck, I think lots of people in this world, typical and other wise have had PB poops.... Sometimes when things change... it doesn't really mean anything is wrong A.

Thanks A~ You know, the thing or (thingy) is LOL, Jelani has always forever been this bolder guy (omg! I'm really discussing this!) And when he went from such a grand scale to something you can compare to PB, it makes me wonder. So after I took him to the doc she suggested stool may be stuck inside and ordered an x-ray, results were good, just x-tra stuff there...no blockage (yeah!) Now I'm thinking lactose intolerance...I've been cutting back on dairy for 3 days and I notice his poop becoming formed.(yahoo!) ;D And the 1/2 tsp mineral oil in juice 1xdaily helps. *today in his communication book the teacher wrote he ate all his lunch and drank tons of milk! Uh-oh, let's see.

It could be the diary or protien... protien in general can mess up the poops.. I know it does me LOL Think FIBER LOL A.
