Christie~ I'm on call at work, so I'm hoping like crazy that I don't get any calls where I have to go there!! Most times, it just amounts to answering questions on the phone and I'm hoping for that! We cook all throughout the day and eat around 2pm...........funny how you spend 6 hrs cooking and 20 minutes eating and another hour cleaning up!!!!! Not to hijack this post, but can everyone add what they are having to eat? I love hearing what everyone's favorite Thanksgiving foods are! We'll be having turkey, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole (the one with the pecan topping), rolls, corn, fruit salad, and the BEST part............dressing and gravy!!! Oh yes.......pecan and pumpkin pies. We hope to decorate our Christmas tree tomorrow afternoon and take a nap! Susan

My mom and grandma will be coming over here tomorrow for lunch. Not a big crowd, but we'll have turkey day decorations and (hopefully) my house will be cleaner than usual! We will have ham, green beans, scalloped potatoes, yeast rolls, and pumpkin pie. Tomorrow evening, mom, little girlies, and I will go to my other grandma's house to eat more ham (and turkey). Then on Saturdayafternoon, I'll have dinner at my house again when Sarah and Emily can come, and my great aunt, and mom and grandma. Katy works retail so she can't come this year.

We are going to my sister's house. My whole family will be there along with my sister's in-laws and my FIL and his wife (the ones from Montana). We flew in my FIL's "wife" (been together for like 20 years but never married), for the holiday since he is staying with us and helping Brian do our home renovation. Cost an arm and a leg for the flight but we figured it was the least we could do for them. Hopefully she won't get delayed in Cincinnati this morning due to the weather. We are having our usual feast: Brian is making the turkey and stuffing, sisters are making all the other fixings - cauliflower salad, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes and gravy, relish tray, rolls, homemade mac & cheese. I'm supplying the pies - nope - NOT homemade!!! Oh yeah, I'm also supplying the baby for everyone to goo on all day! Now I just need to find a pair of pants that fit well enough for me to eat all that food and still be comfortable. I refuse to put back on maternity pants . . . although today it will be VERY tempting . . . !!!! Have a wonderful day everyone. I do believe it's time for a mimosa! Jessie

What am I doing, cleaning my house! We were going to go to my parents but my Mom has pnemonia so we are staying home. My husband works for the highway dept and it's snowing so he will be going into work to plow. So I will probably be eating leftovers today! But on Saturday we will make up for it by celebrating with Paul's family at their camp. We call it our redneck thanksgiving- we have a ball with 4 wheelers and "mudding"in the 4 wheel drive trucks, shooting potatoe guns(and mini marshmellow guns for us chickens) I could be on that show Blue collar tv with Jeff foxworthy! My kids love it because its the one day they can let loose and even use an outhouse! Am I scaring anyone yet? BUt no fear, back to my civilzed life the next day!

Hi,
I am hosting Thanksgiving this year. I come from a very large family (my mom is 1 of 11 children) ..so typically we split up into about 4 groups. We all get together at Christmas....and the house is literally is packed wall to wall !! Just my immediate family on my moms side(aunts/uncles/cousins) is almost 60 people!! So we typically don't a ALL get together at Thanksgiving...because there are just too many of us.
At my house this year will be me, hubby and 2 kids, my parents, my sister and her boyfriend, my nephew and my uncle. My aunt lives around the corner..so any of her group may stop over as well. She lives 5 houses away and will have a group at her house too.
On our menu is italian antipasto (romaine lettuce with balsamic dressing) italian hams, cheeses, olives etc.......then the main course...turkey, stuffing, broccoli casserole, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes. Dessert will be cakes, pies and coffee and tea!!
Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Lisa, your family sounds like mine! Both sets of my grandparents had 12 kids, so large family on both sides! Today we had dinner with my grandma's family. When we all get together there is around 70 people, too many for a house. We rent a center and all meet there.
We had the traditional dinner, turkey and ham and all the trimmings, and TONS of desserts! ;D
My sisters and brother and our familys will also get together at my mom's house this weekend.

well, a little late but we just stayed home yesterday. my in laws came over and that was all. as far as dinner goes - turkey, stuffing, spaetzle (German noodles) and gravy. That was all my inlaws would eat :-) For my side of the family we added green bean casserole (affectionately known as BEAN YUK in my family), mashed turnips, grandma's Olive Salad, sweet potatoe casserole & fresh fennel for after dinner. We had an apple dumpling cake & a lemon cream bundt cake for dessert.
Funny - I never clean up right after dinner but prefer to sit and talk around the table. I clean when everyone goes home. My MIL is the exact opposite, dissapearing into the kitchen for an hour and getting everything done. So that's what she made me do yesterday too...was nice coming back to a sparkling clean kitchen after but didn't feel quite right, LOL!! it was a little strange, this being the first holiday without mom...how I wanted to share the days events with her!! But I know she was there in spirit.
Hope everyone had a happy holiday. laurie

Hey I'm late too!! But it took me this long just to clean up and get everything away!! LOL!! We had 29 people here this year. We had to move our kitchen table out and put in 3, 8 foot tables so everyone could sit and eat together. I usually clean up right away too, but this year I stayed around and talked instead(because I was too full to move). I think I'll do that from now on. It was nice to just relax and enjoy the company.
We had ham, turkey all the fixins and too many pies to count!! I ended up giving some away and froze 3. Hmmm... think I'll go get some pie right now as a matter of fact. I like to heat it up in the microwave and add whip cream. -Trisha

We do not have a Thanksgiving tradition as such, we do not have any family here either, so a few of our good friends get to-gether, have a potluck dinner and plan the next day's shopping. Well! that has become our tradition for the past 4 yrs now

We do the traditional dinner here...15lb turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cheesy potatoe casserole, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, rolls, pumpkin pie...all homemade. We eat early here~1pm or so. Then later, head to MIL's as she doesn't want guests till 6pm & doesn't make a whole bird~ just a breast & that was reheated from the day before. We hoped to head to my Aunts too as my Uncle's family was home there & more cousins were in but we didn't get there with the icy road conditions. There were wrecks everywhere... I had to laugh though....we have a redneck holiday here usually ourself, but we live in the country. Friday the hubby had to go to the sale at that big hardware chain & exchange some stuff. He came home & installed our new baseboard heaters in the LR & I laid flooring in the laundry/office.Sat he & Matt hunted out at the game lands& I took all the kids up the street to our friends who have an exotic farm. They had Santa there for pics.Yesterday after church, I took the boys cosmic bowling then, we came home & had my bday cake.... Today I'm on deer watch as Mike had to go into work but will hopefully get to go out this afternoon.

We went to N.Y. city for our family reunion. ;D We had a great time! I love Thanksgiving, it is one of my favorite holidays! Especially it is very close to Luke's B/day (November 19). We arrived to N.Y. on Nov. 19 and had a B/day party for Luke at my cousin's place - that was real fun. ;D I have the best cousin! Also, we had very good news that my cousin's daughter got engaged!! ;D
Hope everyone had great Thanksgiving!
