Looking for speech help in LA area

Hi guys (gals ;D):

I've been searching on line for a good speech center to do an independent evaluation for me in the Los Angeles area.

Ryan's speech is still so delayed - beyond what is "typical" for kids with ds. He either leaves off the beginning sounds, or then ending. I'm feeling his frustration when he tries so hard to tell me something but I just don't get it .

I hoping maybe to get some advice on augmentative communication. I know there's been some posts here about devices - but we need to have him seen by someone who really knows their stuff KWIM?? For those of you who don't remember, the district eval was a complete joke - so I'm going with my own.

BTW - Ryan just got bi-focals today - I'm surprised he's already adjusting to them, at least he seems to be at this point. He did some homework tonight (actually working on addition ) and his writing already seems a little better. Who knows .

Oh yeah, I think it's safe to say he is no longer having weekly accidents anymore either. I didn't want to post since it seemed like everytime I did - the stinker would go and poo his pants . He still doesn't really initiate - but hey, one step at a time!

;D Hi Jodi... have you ever tried Therapy West? Their phone number is [phone].... Tell them Olivia Liptons mom had you call K? Liv went thru ei ot speech camp afterschool program since she was 2 and she is still there. They have a great oral motor clinic there too for the younger ones and the older ones. COOL place. Theres a place here called speech and language center something like that HATED IT!!!! WAY TOO clinical and BORING for my gal.. Good luck!!! Steff

JODI if you get an eval done by therapy west I think you'll be pleased. There is a place right around the corner from me called the computer access center. You can go every thursday to try out augm devices etc. CHECK IT OUT!!!! they are amazing. With a recommendation for aug commun it isn't that hard to get the devices. CALL Liz Spencer at the westside regional center. She's in the parent support room. Her son used aug commun at our home school and is the best at helping you find what you need. She has a son in his teens with ds. I adore her. Steff

I took Russell to STL's Children's hosp... they have a communication, aug com dept and they did our eval here. Does CHOC have something like that? That place steff mentioned sounds good... also, our old PT now had a center based program and it's in Huntington Beach and called Cornerstone Therapy... don't know if they can help or not but it's worth the call.. they could refer you even....

Charlotte Fleishman is our old PT... you could maybe ask for her.. say Russell Bievenue's mommy sent ya She is WONDERFUL and a wealth of knowledge.. so if her ST's don't do that there.. I BET she can lead you to where you need to go. Her one ST there is named Nina...

Well, the only speech we got was through that Cornerstone Therapies I mentioned.... I don't know if they do evals.
