Joshua will be ten months old on the twelfth. Yesterday, I noticed a little "blister" on the center of his lower gumline, and today the edge of a tooth has popped through. Guess he's growing up! From what I've read, I wasn't expecting teeth for awhile longer, and maybe in a weird order. What have your kids done as far as getting teeth? I nurse my children until they're three or four or whenever they want to quit and I've never had problems with biting. Joshua already bites, though, and even though he has only used gums, it HURTS when he chomps down on the very tip . . . YOW! I'm not looking forward to his experimenting with his new tooth.

Good for Joshua! Hey, he's getting teeth! If he starts biting, just move onto steak! Nicholas got his first 3 teeth on his first birthday, and they came in the proper order. He had all his teeth (including his 2 yr molars) by the time he was 2.

Hi Kelly,
Alethea got her first tooth at 10 months also. She as well was a biter and don't you dare stick your finger in her mouth now either. I never go looking for teeth now that she has almost a mouth full.
I nursed Alethea as well. At 6 months the gum biting was terrible, but bearable. At 11 months the tooth biting was more than I could handle. She bit me so hard numerous times she drew blood. At that point, I had to question what I was doing. I tried the typical teaching them not to bite while nursing tricks. It got to the point with Alethea though that I don't think she understood what I was trying to teach her. I would tense up every time she nursed because of the pain. I then moved her onto the bottle, but then felt guilty and went back to nursing for about a month. After that month (which wasn't bad with biting) she began to bite again and I knew our time had come to an end. However, unlike the first time of taking her off the breast, she was ready this time to be finished with me in that regards.
All I'm saying is good luck. Teach those no bite tricks beginning now!

Well, I said, "I nurse my kids until they're three or four or whenever they want to quit." In the case of biting, if I can't teach him not to, I'll quit whether he's ready or not!

Kelly, Collin (5.5 yrs now) did not get his 1st tooth until he was 16 months old and they came in the weirdest order. I nursed him until he was just a little over 2. We really never had a problem with biting...but before he got his teeth he did like to CHOMP down. OUCH!!! Good luck! Connie

Justin got his first tooth around 1 yr old, just about the same time he was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and started on the Levoxyl and then they just popped out like popcorn.

Congratulations on the new tooth!!!!!!!!!!! That is so exciting!!!!!! My daughter got her first tooth at 7 months, I was surprised as well. I had heard the average time would be about 12 months. I never believed she would get one so soon. That is the only one she has, and now she is 10 months. We are patiently waiting for more. I nursed my daughter until she was 9 months old, and biting was never an issue. I think I would not handle it too well if she did bite bad. Good Luck Liz
