Hi guys.....I'm wondering if anyone else has a child with an amazing amount of change in their skin coloring. When Erin was a baby I was concerned because her fingers, hands & everything would be a greyish, purple blue in the cold. As she did have a heart defect....I was VERY worried and her docs (all 10 of them!! LOL) always just said she had "great mottling"....okey- dokey...that's what we all want, no ? LOL And conversely, in the summer she is bright red.....everyone is always worried that she is burning in the sun....but it isn't a sunburn.....it just RED. This morning, her poor little hands looked ghastly....grey, blue.....oh, I can't even tell you how horrible they looked....now they look fine and she is in perfect spirits....but it just looks gruesome..... anyone else have this drastic reaction ?

Hannah does too.In the summer people always comment she is sunburned, (she isn't) and her hands and feet get blue looking when cold. I too have spoken to many doctors about it and they all have different answers why, but it's all ok. (she had heart reapair at seven weeks and sees the cardiologist yearly) I always thought it was maybe because she is very fair skinned.

Nicholas used to get the mottled color, usually after a bath when his skin cooled, but that was before his surgery. Havn't noticed it since then, and have never noticed the red skin. You guys are probably right, probably just the fairer skin!

CHRIS is very very faired skinned and too has "great mottling" He does sunburn very very easy but even when he is just hot and not burnt he will turn red when he is over heated. In the winter YIKES his hands and feet get soooooooo sooooo cold and change colors till he is warmed up again. What worries me bout my boy is he will never ever complain or say he is cold or hot CC ~

My finger nail's turn bluish in the winter and colder weather. Sometimes my hands do turn blue especially when my vein's are popping out all over. Cold weather can do that too. I have something called Raynauld's. It affects the hands and lower extermities. I think it is when the blood vessels contract and spasms. I can't take the cold weather too much but anything cold can do that too to me.
Summer time I can turn red after just being outside for too long. I sun burn easily. Yes, I do have fair skin! I don't take the heat too well either.

Carter mottles when he gets out of the tub. I get really red in a warm shower and I have Raynauld's, too! I chalked it up to sensitive skin, but I do know kids with DS are more susceptible to the mottling. Poor Carter - he didn't have a chance between heredity and predisposition, did he? He does tan easily, which was a little surprising and has never burned. DH is part greek, so that probably helped him out!
