Man, you guys, I think the holidays are finally over, right? I can't remember a Christmas EVER that I just wanted it all to be done. I'm usually the Christmas queen, but it was a little too much for me this year. My Dad's death just before Thanksgiving cast a pall over everything. Then add in the new baby, the addition to our house, and Christmas and I was just DONE.
We celebrate our Christmas late because my husband is a sergeant with our county sheriff's department, and always works on Christmas day. So we did it the 29th this year, and things went from bad to worse. I was trying to get one of the million twist ties off of one of the kids' presents, got the scissors under the twist tie, and the scissors slipped and punctured my wrist. Oh my god, it was terrifying. More blood than I've ever seen in one place (even on the ceiling, LOL!) We had to put a tourniquet on it and get me to an ER quick. I see an orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday because I have no feeling in my thumb or index finger. Now I have all this painting and stuff to do, and only one good hand - FRUSTRATING!
Okay, so I'm just whining. But guys, be careful with those twist ties!!!! Typing with one hand takes forever, LOL!

OM Gosh Laura! I hope you're alright! It's funny (well...not funny ha!ha!, but strange funny) I had visions of doing the same thing to myself.
I hate those little ties they use to hold the toys in the boxes. Really! Can't they do something else? My husband's comment was I hope people are stealing enough toys to make it worth it for all this stuff!
Anyway, hope you're feeling better soon. Paint can wait, healing can't!

Laurie,
Your family was much on my mind this holiday - it is certainly difficult spending that first holiday without a parent. I'm hoping desperately that next year will be better. Both my dad and your mom had been ill for awhile, and I thought that would make it a little easier. I was soooo wrong. BIG HUGS to you and your family.

Laura, Laura, Laura. I can't believe all of the stuff that has happened to you over the last few months! Hopefully, 2006 will be a much better year for you.
So . . . be on honest here . . . did you let go of making a million different baked goods this year or did you try to be an overachiever still?!!! LOL
Hope your hand heals quickly.

OMG Girl, I swear you are my twin, lol I was getting that darn twisty ties off of my daughter's bratz dolls and instead of the scissors cutting the twisty's off it went straight into my thumb on the crease!!! Ouch!! I should have went to the ER to get stitches but it was Xmas morning and I didnt want to spend 5 hours at the hospital so I had my hubby butterfly bandaid it for 2 days and I am just not starting to get some feeling back but otherwise its pretty tingly numb .
I hope you are feeling better and you get some good news from the surgeon.

Ummm, Jessie, I guess I need to join the local chapter of Overachievers Anonymous. I made a million baked goods, hosted dinner for 18 on Christmas Eve, and had dinner for 15 on New Years Day (in spite of the hand). Geez, just reading this its obvious I need help! LOL.
Heidi, hope your hand feels better! I heard that there were a couple of other injuries with scissors in our local ER, all of us trying to open those darn toys.
Cathy, bless your big heart, I'm waiting for that snow! We are only supposed to get rain here for the next little while. That is just annoying. Thanks for the hugs, I needed them. Hugs right back at ya, girlfriend!

OMG...I hope you are doing better now. I also hate the way they hold all these toys in, you'd think we bought gold or something. The new year HAS to be better. Wishing you and yours the best this year! -Trisha

That is horribel! About ten years ago I did something similar with a knife in the palm of my hand- couldn't feel half of my fingers either, not to scare you but I had severed a nerve and needed surgery to repair it. I hope this will heal on it's own and quickly!

OMG! I once severed the web between my thumb and index finger and it took some time to get feeling back (and 8 stitches)! You do too much, you know that?

It's over and we're doing a happy dance. We made it through a very nice (despite the entire family of five making a trip to urgent care together for strep throat and pink eye and the flu) Christmas and New Year. I love the holidays, but also love when they're done. Down comes the tree....what's next?!
Sorry about your hand! We had quite a few comments about those darn twisteys the last few weeks. EEESSSHHH!
