Reading Laura's post on her Friday the 13th surgery and talking about Black Eye'd Peas for New Years (for luck) got me thinking... how many of you are supersticious??? You believe in that stuff? Take precautions? Believe alot in astrological signs? ect....
I personally am not.. but just curious who is and to what extent. My sis... she is a hoot.. everytime you do something.. she says.. "oh, it's because you are [insert astrological sign]. Which, is ok.. but it's just funny because that is ALL she says about who someone is. It's all that!
Ok.. tell me about you!

No, certainly not. And I'm not superstitious either. But I did insist on having ham, and greens, and black-eyed peas--which Lynn refuses to touch--on New Year's Day. Why, you might ask. In an introductory note to his Collected Poems, Dylan Thomas wrote, "I read somewhere of a shepherd who, when asked why he made, from within fairy rings, ritual observances to the moon to protect his flocks, replied: 'I'd be a d**n' fool if I didn't!' These poems, with all their crudities, doubts, and confusions, are written for the love of Man and in praise of God, and I'd be a d**n' fool if they weren't." Pretty smart guy that Dylan Thomas, even if he was a drunk Welshman. Now as far as Laurasnowbird's situation. First, I think there's some sinister international plot behind all those twist ties used on kiddie toys. And I think it would have been better for George W. to have pursued that instead of war in Iraq, but nevermind, let's not get political. Second, I think some people shouldn't play with scissors. Difference between me and Laurasnowbird is that I know that I'm one of those people. Regards, apologies, and well wishes--take whichever applies-- Bob

No. Nothing remarkable has ever happened to my on Friday the 13th. I can name several other dates on the calendar that weren't so hot, though!

Well, as I mentioned in that other thread, my older son is pretty superstitious. No idea why, because DH and I are not! I do, however, tend to believe in "signs", or feelings.
Here's an example. A few monthes ago, my older son and his girlfriend were driving here, and had a flat tire. A friend of his happened to be driving by and brought them on home. He was going to take our truck back to change the tire, but it would not start. (Hadn't been having any problems, and didn't have any after!) So, he was going to take the car. He started it, came back in the house after something, went back out and realized he had locked the keys in the car. Searched and searched, couldn't find the spare set. Called the sherriff to have them unlock it, said it would probably be an hour before they could get here.
I looked at Derek and told him, for whatever reason, he was not meant to be driving at that particular moment. And I didn't let him leave the rest of the evening!
So things like that tend to get me, but not black cats or broken mirrors!

I'm not supersticious.
I do like to look for signs, like Valerie though. I don't always react on them, but it keeps my mind busy coming up with scenerios and reasons.

Not supersititious, but beginning to think I ought to be - LOL! I will admit that when I was pregnant with Victoria I broke a mirror, and that certainly freaked me out a little bit. But I blame that on hormones, and the fact that I am FAR from rational every time I'm pregnant. No comment, Bob!!
I completely agree about the international twist-tie plot - I think you've got something there, Bob. But I'm afraid even that is beyond Bush's ability to solve.
As far as who should be using scissors, I've learned that a prodigious lack of sleep has a huge impact on one's ability to wield said tool. Won't do that again until I've had a full nights sleep.
And I'll take all the above. Giggle.

As for Friday the 13th NOPE I never worry on that day, knock wood, LOLOL Someone just came up with that, I think , hmmm wonder where that originated from?? A~ you are GREAT on facts like that, you have any idea where Friday the 13th came from?? I also believe in the LUCK of the Irish and thankfully I am Irish CC ~

Nope, I am not superstitious at all. I don't believe in delving into astrology either.

A~ I'm not at all superstitious........I have stepped on cracks for many years and never ever broke my mother's back, I'm totally allergic to ALL cats so the white ones are just as dangerous to me as a black one, and I don't worry about anything bad happening on Friday the 13th. (I did, however, choose to NOT fly in an airplane on September 11th for the past few years).
Like Valerie, I really do try to look for "signs", and try to pay attention to my "gut" feelings. I would have done the same thing you did Valerie in the situation with your son not driving that night!!

Hey A!
Not supersticious, but kind of afraid to do much thinking these days. It seems as if I think it it comes true. However it never works with the lottery or 50/50's.

Well, I didn't think I was supersticious but then after reading some of the examples I'm thinking that I might be! I don't walk under ladders and when a black cat crosses my path I think "crap, what's going to happen today?" HOWEVER, when I do think this way, my next thought is, "that's so stupid to think that way!". LOL I'm conflicted in my own mind. Is that a medical condition? LMAO I don't do the astrological stuff at all. I do have a couple of "issues" with the 13th though. My brother was born on January 13th and he is definitely the black sheep of the family. Had problems since the day he was born. My dad and his siblings all have the number 13 phobia for good reason. My dad comes from a family of 16 kids. The 13th child, my uncle who was closest in age to my dad, was killed at age 13. Spooky, huh? Have you noticed that there are still many hotels that don't have a 13th floor (well, there is a 13th floor, but they just skip over the number)? Jessie
