Hi everyone!!! I am looking for a baby gate for the bottom of our stairs. I found one about a month ago and saved the web site but then we got a new comp. and I can't find it again. It was not your typical gate. It was almost like netting or maybe mesh, and it could go from banister rail to banister rail, it didn't need a wall to attach too. We have just been baracading (sp) the bottom of the stairs with an exersaucer and plant on one side and a baby walker on the other. But my cute little boy has now become a big monster and can litterally pull these things right out of his way even though the rest of us find it hard to do...go figure! LOL! He constantly wants to crawl up the stairs, so it has now become a safety issue and I REALLY wanted the gate I found before. I have done a search but this gate doen't seem to come up and I can't remember who made it. Anybody have a clue which gate I'm talking about?? Boy, a ranch home sounds really good about now!! LOL! -Trisha

www.babysupermall.com has a baby gate finder which lets you pick the features you are looking for and narrows down your choices.

I'm sorry, can't help....but thought I would throw in a differnet perspective.... I never used baby gates with any of my children. Just wasn't an issue.....and Erin's favorite plaything was the STAIRS !! She could climb before she could walk....and to this day I NEVER worry about her on stairs or any climbing appartus...it is second nature to her. Not sure how old your baby is...but stairs can be excellent therapy !! Good luck !

We have a regular gate between our banisters and it works fine.

We had the same issues. Never needed a gate with the other 3, but man oh man, Alethea was the stair climber. We barracaded too, and she too became the get it out of my way little girl.
We had the extra problem of having a base board on one side and an iron banister on other. We found our gate at Toys r us.
9. Center Gateway - Platinum Avg. Customer Rating: (Rate this item) Usually ships in 24 hours Price: $84.99 For hope, Alethea can now come safely down the stairs on her own and so we've finally been able to remove the gate. Do you want ours?

That's it Valerie!!! #6 is the one I wanted! Thank you so much. It's funny my other 3 kids also didn't bother with the stairs but Andrew...uggggh. We do use the stairs for therapy with him, going up all on his own and helping him down. But when I answer the phone, or have to stir dinner, let the dog out etc, he just bolts right for them and so it has become a real safety issue. I knew I could count on you guys to help! Thanks again!! -Trisha

We STILL use two gates here even with Russell being 7 1/2. We use one of those adjustable ones for our hallway at night for sleeptime. We put a gate up passed our bedrooms so if Russell gets up in the middle of the night he won't wander the house. It's one of those wooden top and bottom with the coated wire mesh looking stuff. They have the smaller and shorter versions and a taller and longer one. We have the taller and longer one. My mom actually bought it for her last house she had back in CA for an area the smaller ones didn't work. Then... we have one of those mesh gates with the turning tension knobs to make it longer and shorter. Regan's bedroom downstairs doesn't have a door (no walk out basement so it's technically NOT a bedroom LOL) so we have to put a gate up just so Russell can't get in her room and mess around. So we have that. A friend gave us that one to borrow back in CA and well, we took over on it. Now.. the stair issue.. we will have to re address once we move this year. We plan on buying a bigger house which more then likely means a 2 story. We have a ranch now. SO... I have a feeling we will have to gate a few more areas like stairs. Russell does pretty good on our stairs to the basesment but it has a door to it.. so I don't have to worry.. for some reason the whole open stair case thing makes me a bit nervous... don't know why.. I am sure this will pass. GOOD LUCK with the gate decision and purchase! I might need you when it's my turn! A.
