It's quite important because I have the Nurse Practitioner's home and cell phone numbers and I'm trying not to call her at 11pm to tell her what I think of her!
Here's the story. Ali has had her thyroid checked a few times on my request.
On October 12, 2004 her Thyroid Stimulating Hormone was 1.24 well within the range of 0.70-5.90.
Now, I have been reading that most places have changed that range to only go up to about 3.0, have not confirmed this yet but have been reading it. Which makes the next part even more upsetting!
March 25, 2005 we did Ali's 2 year bloodwork. I was TOLD THIS WAS ALL NORMAL....and I did not go over it like I normally do. (We were getting ready to go to Arizona for Neurology, Ali started seizing that day, ect.)
We saw the NP that day, who I thought I could trust. I thought she learned her lesson from giving Ali the chicken pox vaccine at 12 months and landing her in the hospital for a week. (if you don't know that story go to www.aliandpeanut.com to Ali's story, toward the bottom of the page in blue text.)
On March 25, 2005 Ali's T4 was low at 0.66, range being 0.70 - 2.40. Nothing alarming there.
Her Thyroid stimulating hormone was 5.50. Range being 0.70-5.90. Now, I REALIZE it is still within normal range, however it is a big jump from 1.24 to 5.50 in only a few months. There was never a mention made of watching it, or checking it again, ect. I plan to get complete lab reports on Monday if not sooner... to find out if we have checked it since then because I can't remember. (We have done so much bloodwork I can't keep track.) But it certainly appears to be high enough to warrant closer scrutiny! And, the same NP told me that Ali's celiac screening came back as "borderline" so, now I'm worried about that as well. She didn't consider this TSH to be borderline, so how bad was the celiac screening?
Needless to say we will not be seeing the NP anymore, only the Ped. We only saw her on Friday because it was his day off, but I'd rather use the after hours or ER than see her.
Unfortunately for the poor woman she works from 9am - Noon tomorrow, and I guarantee she will be hearing from me...
GRRRR!
Now I have to get complete records and go back to make sure there is not something else that has been missed, as if I have time to do that!
I can not believe that my kid could have been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in March of last year, and nothing was even said about it.
Thoughts, go for it... I'd love to hear opinions, am I over reacting? If you have a child with Hypothyroidism I would love to know what their exact numbers where at time of diagnosis.
