Well I went into t is conference with a lot of hesitation and doubts and came out on Cloud 9.
Oh sure we have the usual behavioral, lack of focus issues. But the teachers and therapists are working together. Just in Katie's over all attitude and behavior everyone sees tremendous progress. I was happy with that.
The speech therapist told us that this summer when she tested Katie, she was in the 9th percentile for children her age. When she was tested her last week she was in the 30th. I was so happy and you know, it really shows. Katie speech has really blossomed, now if we could just get her to slow down.
The General Ed teacher seemed a little less aprehensive at this meeting. I think she is starting to see progress and is happy. I really like her, because she will go the extra mile to learn something or adapt something for Katie. It was nice have a meeting with everyone and not have it as an official IEP. I think I mentioned in the beginning of the year, that this is the first time our school has put special needs kids in a general classroom, they always shipped them off to the CI class. I am SOOOO glad I went the route I did, Katie is learning so much and I believe so are the other kids and the teacher.
She has built up a great report with the aide (after 3 months of driving her crazy). Mrs. Wilcox now has Katie's respect and love. Katie talks about her all the time.
AND NOW FOR THE BEST PART!!!! Katie has been going potty for the teachers and aide!!! Finally, she still does not say she has to go, but when put on the potty she goes. Everyday this week. I am hoping that she is finally getting it!
All in All, I felt really great, I left knowing that I had made the right decision last spring. Now we worry about what we do next year.
Have a great day!
