about Christopher's Disney obsession, but in Ethan's case, it is Batman. Oh my gosh, if I never hear the word Batman again it will be too soon.
His older brother has the Batman Animated Series on DVD, and Ethan watched it one day with his big brother when Nick was babysitting him. I came home to the two of them sitting on the couch, eating popcorn and watching Batman. I thought it was soooo cute.
Little did I know.
It was the beginning of the end.
The end of normal life, and the beginning of "Life with Batman". The kid is, quite frankly, OBSESSED! When I pick him up from school, I always hug him, and say "Hi Baby, how was your day?" And now he answers "Batman". OMG Get him out of the bed each morning, and the first thing he says is "Batman". If we're lucky, maybe "Robin", or "Penguin". Eeekk!
I've put the Batman DVD's away for the last several days, and told him that Batman is on vacation (I was seriously resisting the urge to tell him Batman is DEAD, know what I mean?) It doesn't seem to be helping yet.
On a encouraging note, we've been encouraging him to use words, and verbally prompt him to say what he wants. When he wants apple juice, he'll say "apple juice now?" We prompt him to say " I want apple juice please" before he gets the juice. We are trying to teach sentence structure and complete sentences, and get him to slow down so it is more intelligible.
So a couple of days ago, he says "apple juice please", and instead of prompting, I said "How do you ask Mommy for it nicely? He looks at me, and WITHOUT PROMPTING, looks me squarely in the eye and says " I.............WANT...........to watch Batman!" Nick, Victoria and I laughed til we cried. Little stinker. I was so thrilled that he used correct sentence structure without prompting that I had to let him watch Batman for awhile.
So......CC, what's the cure? I need to know! My sanity depends upon it!
