Have you heard all the scuttle about this? ABC's Extreme Makeover, Home Edition is looking for people in need of a new home that have multiple children with Ds, or someone who has skin cancer, etc. Apparently, The Smoking Gun website got ahold of the "list" that went out to ABC affiliates of families they are looking for. TSG website says the list has a creepy feel to it because they have a list of maladies, tragedies, etc., they are looking for. Huh, it does feel kind of wrong to use a disability to get a new house - wait - who am I kidding - I want a new house!!!!!!!!! I don't think Jason would mind if he got a new Harry Potter themed bedroom out of it either! LOL No, seriously, isn't there someone that posts on here from New Orleans that was living in a camper or something? ? That's the kind of situation I would like to see someone get help with. Just thought I would pass this along to those in need . . . Jessie P.S. Gotta go, need to find that application on ABC's website. LOL

Okay I honestly need a new house. LOL Not to make light of anything anywhere else but we bought our house after it had been burned and had tried to fix it up but it is a mess there are rooms we can't use stuff like that. I have never applied at EHM because how likely is it that they would pick us and I have so much other stuff to do I just don't have time to put alot of time into something like making the video ect. However if I did think it would work I would apply everyday. I wouldn't feel the slightest bit conflicted over using Kaden's disability because I don't really see it as doing that. I mean if you have a need and someone is going to meet that need for whatever reason it just seems silly to me to turn it down. THe thought of my kids having ROOMS and Jonathan being able to escape his pesky brothers would be consolation enough for whatever pride I had to injure. KWIM. I certainly don't feel like we deserve it more than others. I have seen some on there that may deserve it less but that is neither here nor there. It is kind of a game of chance like playing the lottery. I would not feel ANY guilt if I won that!! Radonna

Wellllllllllllllllll I guess I "feel" both sides of this... I LOVE the show.. it's our fav... I get a good cry out each week from watching it LOL... and I know they do alot of shows for those REALLY in need.. far beyond JUST a house.. the touch on our heart strings with alot of things... it's what sells the show and I am ok with that... heck... I CRY over it.. and LOVE it... The other side... I DID get just a twinge of sadness when another board I am on posted what they "needed" for shows. Now, at the time, I didn't know about the Smoking Gun scuttle... I just knew what Extreme Makeover was "needing" for shows.. and I turned to Kevin and said.. it's kinda sad they just don't say "we are taking new tapes for those who want to be picked" but actually had "guidelines". Not just ONE child w/DS... more then one, specific cancers I think they listed? It's NOT that those people that fit the criteria who need a house can't apply or get picked... what makes me sad is that there IS a criteria.. and it's NOT for anyone... like I assumed prior to today. It's just their choice of marketing strategy with this. I am not naive.. I KNOW they have marketing criteria to make a show get ratings and tug at my heartstrings amd make me cry tears of joy each week... just kinda irked for a few moments when I read it.. that's all. Oh.. and Radonna... I DO think you should apply... I do... you deserve it.. and don't ever think they wouldn't pick you... if you don't try... you will NEVER know!!! A.

I would bet there are many group homes in most states that could use a "Makeover" in that case it wouldn't bother me in the least if they did it just cause the residents had disabilities. I have never watched the show and not sure if this is something they would consider, but maybe since there is such a big shortage of "group homes" Hmmm wonder if they would find an old house, fix it up and create a new one Just my thoughts CC ~

You know what CC.. that is a GREAT idea! There is a home across from the church where Reece goes to preschool that is for adults that are DD. It's just a home they kinda converted or adapted for them.... you are right... there are probably plenty homes around the USA that could use the "lift". A.

You know, there are ALOT of us here on the site with more than 1 differently abled person in our families. I keep thinking of that adult village that Robin, Susan,A, Ro & a bunch of us would dream about in chat....I still have my 20 acres....wouldn't that be the coolest ? A little village of independant living cottages with a rec center & workshop/job opportunities for the residents....Unoland of sorts
