Hi I'm new here. I have a son with Down syndrome that is 7 years old. He is included in regular Kindergarten. We live in Sweden where inclusion is rare.
I joined as someone on a mailinglist recommended me to ask here about a locator for lost glasses. My son throws away his glasses from time to time so we would really love to have some kind of very small locator attached ON the glasses themself. Anyone know of anything like that?

Welcome to Uno Mas! My son Patrick is 6 and he has glasses too. We just had a month stretch where I couldn't find his glasses and I finally got him another pair~then 4 days later he lost the new pair! After a couple of weeks I finally found them in his shorts drawer! So I dont have any suggestions for lost glasses but just wanted to let you know you're not alone in this struggle!
I hope to here more about you and your son.

Hi, welcome to Uno Land. Nope, haven't heard of glasses locator. Have heard of kid locator, and door and window alarms. So, one could be alerted when kid escapes the house and then go find kid. But, if kid doesn't have glasses on face when found, such a device could be a good idea. I think another good idea is code to send to cell phone to switch it from vibrate to ring, but that's something else not available as far as I know. Meanwhile, you might want to shop for Chums retainers, www.chums.com. Or, see if any benefit to piece of fishing line attached to glasses with other end safety pinned to kid's clothes. 'Course, your kid could come home glassesless and shirtless. Good luck, Bob

WELCOME TO UNO!!!!!!
I would love to have had a small "locator" on Russell's glasses all the years he wore them.. but we just had to play the hide and seek game instead! LOL I wish I did know of something like that.. I bet someone could rig something like that.... you need to INVENT that then if not! heehee...
We had glasses with straps that wrapped around Russell's head... that's what helped us some.
Good luck!

Adam has had glasses since he was 18 ths old. He is now 8 years old and we still have days where his glasses will go missing. We should all get togheter and browse the web and see if anyhting like that was ever invented. If not maybe we should invente something ourselves. PS: Welcome to the site.

Glad you found your way over here Linda. I think the one device someone mentioned was available here thru a place like RadioShak. I have no idea what the Swedish equivalent of that would be. Like I mentioned on the other list. GPS units are getting smaller & I know law agencies have tiny transmitters they're using. Possibly if you contacted a police dept or investigating agency they could hook you up with their suppliers.

And now see that Sharper Image product, www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/product/sku__SI676FUNwas recommended to you elsewhere. And their add pictures cell phone and remote controller as well as glasses. Maybe. Has possibilities. But disc seems a bit large, maybe attach to strap instead of to glasses. and you have to get within 40 feet of missing object before disc starts beeping and flashing. Maybe somebody else makes something a bit more compact. Dunno. Their disc really looks better suited for key chain and glasses case. Makes me think you could find empty case or strap but no glasses. But maybe worth a shot, not too pricey. Just sharing, Bob

I had that Sharper Image device for our remote and stuff and didn't love it. The disc is large and I don't think you'd be able to attach it to the glasses in a way that would be comfortable~i can only imagine how often Patrick would take them off with that thing on them LOL. Believe me~that locater was one of the first things that came to my mind when we first started having this problem but I really dont think it would work. That being said, I haven't actually used it on glasses so I could be wrong!

the only time my girl lost or hid her glasses was when her prescription was off a bit and the frames didn't fit her right. Shes had em since 10 months old and now is 8. Only once when she had glasses that weren't right in preschool would she lose/hide em.(in the sandbox UGGG) If you can go to a sporting goods store you can get the straps that athletes use to keep their glasses on. Have you ever tried those? Good luck.....We are a family of Swedes and Finns...as well. My husband loved Swede when he went to world cup soccer in Belgium a few years back.Good luck. Sometimes when the script isn't that strong its tougher to keep the glasses on. The stronger the lens the better they keep em on. My girls is strong(7.75-8.25 farsightedness) so she wakes up gets em on and tries every night to sleep with em. LOL
