The post a bit ago regarding compressions and brushing before/during haircuts made me think more about sensory issues.
For those of you whose kiddos aren't haircut fans, how do they do in the shower?

Sarah is only four so she has only had baths, not showers. She loves taking baths and will play until she is a prune. We have had hair washing issues in the past but she is doing really well right now.
I have always kept her hair short because she hates getting it brushed and put in ponytails or barrettes. Her past couple of haircuts were so tramatic that I just don't have the energy to do it again. Right now, I think a small battle with getting her hair out of her face a couple times a day is much better than the complete meltdown she has when getting her hair cut. She is upset for the rest of the day after a haircut.

Chris, Collin mostly takes baths but every once in a while Michael or myself will get in and turn the shower on. Lets just say he's not a happy camper and proceeds to act like his in in pain. It's funnly but we get the same reaction to rain but he's fine playing in a sprinkler...go figure!!! Connie

John-John gets baths, but loves the jaccuzzi jets. Yes, hates haircuts, thats why we cut hair in the tub. Pat

Oh my gosh Connie.....Andrew is the exact same way!! He's never been in the shower, only baths, but the rain? ? You would think I was pinching him! He acts this way with snow too. I have to RUN into the store if it's snowing because he throws an unbelievable fit. I mean all out... arching his back, screaming, etc. It's really not pretty...not pretty at all. He doesn't mind baths at all. He gives me a hard time washing his hair, but I found a new bath mat that really helps. He sort of lies down on it so the water never gets in his face. Andrew has some sensory issues. He has just, finally gotten to the point that he will touch grass. He still doesn't like it but at least he's not screaming anymore. And the sand at the beach.....ugggg...We spend most of our time at the beach in the summer and I am not looking forward to another summer like last year. Hopefully, like the grass thing, he will be better this year. -Trisha

Jason doesn't mind taking showers, the rain, snow, etc. He got over the shower issue long before the haircut issue. Now, glad to say that's not an issue anymore either! No more excorcisms in our house!!! Jessie

JT recently turned four, and acts like the shower is painful. I was wondering if the shower being a fairly soft touch thing, like getting your hair cut went hand and hand for some of the kids.
JT is a fish in water and LOVES to take a bath and swim. But the shower.....eeesh. In our old house we had the shower/tub combo, so on days that I didn't get my shower in before he woke up, he would take a bath in the tub, while I showered. He is a child I don't dare leave alone. Our new master bathroom has seperate shower and tub, so we either clean up in the kids bathroom or guest bathroom. The past couple of times I had him get in the master shower with me. There is a little bench and he sat and dangled his feet in the water without totally melting down. Maybe we're getting somewhere. Believe me, I try my hardest to take my shower before he is awake!

Cole is the same way... LOVES LOVES LOVES his bath, but screams his head off in the shower. He doesn't mind buckets of water being poured repeatedly over his head, but the shower is not his thing. It is a puzzling situation. He loves to brush his teeth, (me doing it, or himself), likes to brush his hair, loves to wear hats, but a haircut or a shower send him reeling.
