Yup...that's right, Andrew has FINALLY learned how to laugh!!! YIPEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! ;D ;D ;D
I have read so many posts about kids with DS smiling and laughing at an early age, and I really was upset that Andrew didn't do that at all. Now don't get me wrong, he would smile but it was like pulling teeth. He would only laugh if it was REALLY funny to him...like blowing raspberries on his belly or neck. His laugh has always been a "forced" laugh. His therapists would always comment on his laugh and say things like "I just love his laugh" but I knew it wasn't a real laugh. Every time he would "laugh" it would sound just like this....HA HA HA. with no smile at the same time. That is until recently.
The last couple of weeks he has started to laugh. I mean REALLY laugh. Big belly laughs. Today he was laughing so hard in the car, he got tears in his eyes! Ofcourse when I saw this I got tears in my eyes too....happy tears all around! ;D He'll even giggle now, which really pulls at my heart strings....sigh...the sound of a child giggling...nothing can compare!
So...has ANYONE'S child taken THIS LONG to learn how to laugh? I really hate to stereotype but people would always say how happy and smiley their kids were and I would think...not my kid! Not at all!
Andrew just turned 2 and I can't even descibe how good it feels to hear him laugh...really laugh now. It's like he just woke up and "gets it" now. I'd like to think he was just perfecting his little giggles and laughs. maybe he was secretly waiting until I was out of the room and he was letting it all out when I couldn't hear it. LOL! Although he is still using his HA HA HA laugh at inappropriate times...it's all good here!!
