I am trying to come up with an activity/sport for Cooper to participate in, do any of you have any suggestions or experience with anything. I thought of gymnastics and thought that is something he maybe able to do when he turns 3 but I am unsure. I knew I could get some great response here. Thanks, Wendey

I know one of the things they warned us about was not doing gymnastics or at least sommersaults until JT had an "okay" from the neck x-ray.
I would think that if you've got a clean neck x-ray, that gymnastics would be wonderful for balance, strength and social experience.

Evan has started doing some gymnastics and loves it. We did have to take him for a neck x-ray. I am not sure what the x-rays are for but I know kids with DS need them before any kind of sport. Our pediatrician wrote a script for the x-ray, we went to the hospital had it taken and 1 day later got the OK from our pediatrician. He is also going to do horse therapy in September.

Cassie started gymnastics last summer, soon after she turned 4, and she really enjoys it.

Wendey, I coached Kinder-Gym for the last 2 years and took Lewis along with me. I also had another child with DS in my group too.
Kinder-Gym (Toddler-Gym) is designed for kids from crawing age up to 5yrs. I have to say it dod Lewis and the other child the world of good!! Neither received PT in the last 2 yrs as Kinder Gym was giving them the workout that thay needed. The program was very simple, and designed to develop skills in balance, and co-ordination, and to develop overal body strength, befor they start regular Gymnastics at age 5. I would NOT ever allow small children to do forward rolls, and there was a method used to teach kids to roll and do it properly when they are ready.
I would HIGHLY recommend taking Cooper to Gymnastics!!
