Okay for all of you guys with tons of life experience, anyone ever hear of an ablasion? It is done in place of a hysterectomy to try to solve the problems. I went to the dr sure I wanted the hysterectomy but he assured me of a six to eight week recovery and surgery done thru my abdomen instead of girl thingylly so it was easy to convince me to try this other first. However it sounds very scary and I never thought to ask him about recovery and pain afterwards, duh . So anyone here ever have one, I want details. It sounds very unpleasant, involving a sceen being placed in the uterous and being heated up to a pleasant 160 degrees and buring every away except the ::)outer shell of the uterous, using a ultra sound to ensure that is all that is burned away. I am having it done Friday if anyone wants to come hold my hand before and after, and it is just a out patient procedure, they say I can go home the same day. Nurse Susan, how about you? Hugs from the allergic to pain person, Robin

Robin,
I have a friend who is going to have it done as an alternative to hysterectomy. She was having extremely painful periods, and very heavy flow. Her doctor didn't recommend it, I found information about it and she decided to go for that to see if it would help, as she just couldn't take the time off work that a hysterectomy would have required. She is going to have the Novasure procedure done. Some of her co-workers had had it done, and had really good outcomes. Novasure is supposed to be the most effective of the procedures out there right now.
Hope you have a good experience, and I can relate to being allergic to pain. Some days you've just had all you can take, KWIM?
Hugs to you! Laura
P.S. Did you see the stuff I posted for you about apnea and behavior under the sleep study thread?

Awwww Robin sweetie if there were any way I could come and spend some time with you girl, you bet ya I would. BUT since I can't MEGA HUGS going out to you from Jersey Well we know what ABLATION is but for Chris its what they have done on his heart in trying to correct his Tachycardia. They go thru this groin up thru the vein and proceed up to the heart and try to burn out the extra electrical thing that causes his problems. Obviously its 2 different procedures, yours and his but the concept I think is the same. Never been thru it myself but from what I know of ablations I too would pick that route to go girl. You will be knocked out girl so you won't feel any of it Prayers going out for a speedy recovery to you. Hugs CC

Robin...for what it's worth...back to hysterectomy...just in case you end up with that...I had one about 8 years ago due to huge fibroid...and I have a scar from my belly button to my "girly thing"...(not an ugly scar)...and my recovery time was VERY quick.
I had been told same as you 6-8 weeks by friends who had done this. I had had my right knee replaced, too about two months earlier and was afraid I would lose all I had gained in terms of mobility with that as well. But...to my surprise...I could walk my mile ONE WEEK after the surgery and I was a tad over 50 at the time.
Maybe I was one of the lucky ones...just don't know...but in two weeks I was back to driving and living a normal life...thinking that the last baby should come out holding the uterus for sure!!! (and feeling 100% better).
I had no alternative so can't help you there...but in case you opt for the knife...maybe this will help.
Good Luck Jackie mom to Emily almost 26

Thanks guys...I am having the novasure one done Laura and am scared silly. I was going to go alone but a friend of mine has offered to come be there for me. I spelled it wrong too, it is ablation and yes CC, there is the kind for the heart too. That didnt work for Chris did it? I am really hoping this goes well, ther is even a chance I wont ever have a period again. And Jackie said her hysterectomy went well but haivng had the Csections, I am sooooooo not ready to experience any kind of pain even remotely similiar to that. Laura I hadnt seen the apnea post you speak of but am on my way there now, thanks bud! hugs, Robin

Robin, I had a total hysterectomy in Jan of this year, they took it all, the Dr cute right on top of C-Section scare so I have no added one, it goes across not up and down, it took me about 4 weeks to get to where I could do alot, I have course couldnt lift Justin for about 6-8 weeks but man I fell so much better now that its done, I do wear a hormone replacement patch dut to them taking everything I change it once a week and I feel so good, hubby likes it, (LOL), I like the no more really painfull monthlys and the brith control pill. Could luck in what ever you have done Take Care Becky

Robin, you don't know me (I'm kinda new and don't post often), but I had a tubal and an ablation at the same time a couple of years ago. It was the easiest thing to get over. You won't even know anything was done. I was under general anesthsia, and the two procedures were actually separate procecures because the tubal had to be done with a laprascope. I had a couple of stiches for that (in my belly button), but there's no stitches for the ablation.
Also, afterwards, my periods are very light and last about 4 or 5 days. My advice is don't be scared, tell your husband it hurts way longer than it does so you can milk some rest out of the deal. I had the procedures on Friday, and was back at work on Monday (or Tuesday, I forget), but it's nothing to worry about. Good luck! Gay

Hi, I am a lurker here and haven't posted in a long time. But I felt I should share my experience with ablation. I had the procedure done just about 1 year ago and it was the best thing I ever did. It was a day surgery and I just went home and relaxed for a few days (it was like a vacation b/c my hubby had to handle the kids!). Not a lot of pain after the first day and my periods are so much lighter and shorter now. So, I would recommend it.
Good luck! Terri (mom to 3 boys, youngest is 5 with DS)

Yea Gay and Terri, thanks so much for sharing your experiences, mine is tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. and I am a nervous wreck I am such a coward when it comes to doctors and pain. I plan on taking it easy over the weekend and taking Monday off too and then hopefully I will be ready to go back to work Tuesday. Cross your fingers, I am hoping this works as well as it did for both of you!!!! hugs, Robin
