:oLet's talk about the dentist!!! After taking my 6 year old to the dentist for the first time, it was a nightmare. The dentist couldn't take x-rays or do a cleaning. Does anyone have suggestions on how to handle going to the dentist so the work can be done? Do you put them out? HELP??

We selected a dentist who "catered to kids". Their advertisement went on and on about how they were the best for kids and others who might be afraid of dental experiences. At first, they let Emily just come in and sit in the chair on my lap and all they did was LOOK in her mouth and count her teeth. They let her get excited about having her teeth counted. Little by little, it has gotten easier. Is it possible to find a pediatric dentist? We took our oldest son to one many years ago, and they had Disney movies playing on TV screens over the kids heads. That really helped!

We go to a dentist who specializes in kids with special needs. Sarah is very defensive when it comes to doctors.

Sometimes sedation is needed. Our children's hospital has a dental clinic to handle this. We play dentist (tooth checker) at home. I lay back in the recliner (Oh joy ;D ;D. I could almost rest) and I let Greg tell me "ah. Bite" over and over.

We just had Justin up to the Dental School at U of M Pediatric clinic. His first appointment was more of an info type thing and a quick check, there the Dentist gave us a script for antibiotics for him to take an hour prior to the visit and another for versed-sedation med that was given once we got there by the doc. We had him there just this morning for xrays and cleaning and a plan of action. He was not totally knocked out but man was he ever spacy he kinda reminded me of the baby in the womb in Look Who's Talking when they gave Kirsti Alley the demerol LOL. But they put him on a papoose board and he did great although after every xray he insisted on a high five from everyone in the blasted room. They monitored him during the whole process. We go back in 2 weeks for a cap and 2 cavities that need to be filled, it kinda stinks we have to wait but it's because of the antibiotics he needs before hand. Oh yeah and Justin will be 6 in June.
