O.K. I just starting noticing this yesterday morning. My 6 month old has started clenching her fists and it looks like she is biting down (if she had teeth) on her gums making a funny face and trembling while she does this. Her face turns a bit red too. There is no rhyme or reason to it but tonight it startled me. She doesn't cry or act like anything is wrong but it is worrying me. She is at the age where she is learning all about her vocal chords, blowing bubbles, growling, etc. Do you think she has just learned to do this for fun or could something be wrong??

Jason, 11 yrs, does this same thing but it is always when he is completely ticked off. I'm not saying that your little one is doing it for the same reason, but the way you described her is exactly the way Jason looks when he does that.

Well, it sounds like it's something that some of our kids w/DS do. Russell is 6 and has always done that. Russell does it when he is VERY excited and/or happy... it's usually when he is sitting with his legs straight, out in front of him.. he will hyperextend his legs and arms, and lock his jaw (while smiling mind you LOL) and make a wierd Russell noise LOL... for about 30 sec or so.... And yes, I think he has been doing this as far back as a wee little one. Some don't like that their children do it, or get concerned, but it really doesn't bother me that Russell does it. It's just a part of who he is when he gets excited... but it DOES look strange and odd to others. I'd say if you want to be sure and have some piece of mind, ask your doc the next time your baby has a check up. A.

Hmmm not sure have to say my first thought was maybe she is trying to do poops Although I will say the trembling part would scare me too, I would call the Ped just to be safe. May be nothing but better safe then sorry. Can't say my guy who is now 12 has ever done that. Please let us know what you find out. CC ~

We have been really observant today of her and noticed that she seems to be doing it when she is overstimulated. I think it's her way of saying-THAT'S ENOUGH MOM AND DAD!! I thought at first it was out of excitement but I am going to be more aware of her surroundings. Thanks for the input!! I'll keep you posted!

I am still watching Drew in all situations and this trembling thing is happening more frequently. Still, happy, excited, tired, bored, no rhyme or reason to it. She is doing it ALL the time. I have yet to call my ped but it's a bit concerning so I think I'll call. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated

Maybe she is constipated? My little girl can be snarly (no DS) and I remember a similar situation to what you are describing when she was crabby about something.

Hi there,
just thought I'd put my 10 cents worth in for what it is worth. My friends 6 month (who also has ds) old baby started doing just what you described with your baby.
Our babies at the time were about the same age. I really thought she was starting to have the beginings of epilepsy with the shaking and shivering...it was quite worrying to look at. However the paediatrician was not worried at all.
She also did it when excited and stimulated. Nothing at all eventuated from it all and she outgrow it about 6 months later.
I imagine that her brain was just getting excited with the stimulation.
