It's always the small things isn't it? I love when Russell shows me HIS way just what he understands... where he receptive language just is... it's just too cute sometimes....keep in mind he is 8 and is NOW just showing us some little things, in the right direction.....
A couple of recent examples....
A few nights ago I was sitting on my bed. Seems my boy was thirsty. Drinking has always been a hang up for him with communication... I always let him try but end up having to anticipate some of it and THEN direct him and give him options. Well well well... he came walking into my room with the big gallon of milk in tow.. in his hands LOL... Regan was following him cracking up! Seems he was thristy and can now get the fridge open.. got the milk from the door and brought it too me! I call THAT a direct hit!
And then he has been transitioning better....LOTS better!
Another night here the last few nights... it was time for bed. Russell was in his room listening to music. Kevin and I went in there and said "Ok, Russell, time for bed... time to put the music away". And he turned off the boombox, unplugged it, picked it up and tried to put it in the closet on the shelf ALL BY HIMSELF!!! NO fussing the music was over and seemed to know just what to do! I LOVE THAT!!!!
We have also been working more and more with self help and dressing. The school told me how they were doing things and we have been prompting him verbally and with some physical prompts when needed. He is doing really good and TRYING to get his pants or shorts up and down... and his shirts on and off. He still is in the beginning stages and needs our physical help at times... but he tries SO HARD by himself and knows the "actions"!
some true smiling ear to ear moments for this mommy!
