Sorry I haven't been posting much for quite a while it seems. Life just seems to keep getting in the way!!! I have been keeping up with all of you and celebrating all the little triumphs and sending up prayers for those in need.
I am still amazed that Alison is now 3 years old. Doesn't seem possible!!! I posted some pics of her 3rd birthday party in her album. She was so excited about her Elmo cake that I made!
The last few months have seen alot of changes in Alison! Some great things and some not-so-great things....... same as with any kid. She has become quite the chatterbox, constantly talking and signing to anyone who will listen!!! She has just in the last 2 weeks started to stand up in the middle of a room and walk anywhere up to about 6 feet!!! She is definitely showing that frequently mentioned characteristic of running..... she will dart away in the blink of eye whether she's crawling, scooting, or walking. It may turn some heads but I have already invested in one of those harness/leash type things for outside and we have the alarm people coming in next week to make some adjustments on how we can use our security system! She is becoming come the performer these days too. She loves to sing and dance and has even been "playing" the guitar and her sister Sarah's recorder!!! Alison just loves an audience! She has really surprised me with some of the things that she's doing at the most unexpected times too. One day she was standing in our windowseat and I told her to get down..... well, didn't my little imp start "dancing" and singing! Another day I had taken her over to my work and we were stopped while I was talking with one of the nurse's who had taken care of Alison in the delivery room, can't remember exactly what we were talking about, but the nurse made the comment about "Amen, isn't that the truth!" well.......... Alison proceeded to make the sign of the cross and started to sing "Amen"!!! We go to church everyweek but I guess I just never noticed just how much attention Alison has been pating to whats going on - when she's not fidgetting and squirming that is.
We had Alison's transition to CPSE meeting in March and got the services I felt she needs. She will be tending classes 5 mornings a week for 2.5 hours at the school she has been going to for a parent/child group one afternoon a week. The really great thing about this program is that they are affiliated with a very highly regarded day-care center and 2 mornings a week typical kids from the day-care come to the classroom!!! I had looked at this program in September and then again in March just before the meetings, and was thoroughly impressed in the gains all of the kids seemed to have made. Even the district special ed director said that this is one of, if not THE, best programs in our area!!! I have to say a big Thank You to all of you have written about your own experiences transitioning, it made things far less intimidating and gave me the "grapes" to be firm about what I thought was best for Alison!
Between preparing for that meeting, being on the annual fundraising auction committee for Alison's school ( I truely did not realize how very time consuming it would be but loved every minute of it! Especially when we totally blew our fundraising goal out of the water!), keeping tabs on my other two girls (Why, oh, why doesn't someone give out a manual for teenage girls???!!! Caitlin will possibly live to see 16 in July but man, oh day, does she do some completely mind-numbing stuff - nothing dangerous or destructive, just the kind of stuff that makes you think "WHAAAA?), and dealing with some health issues myself ( trying to keep diabetes under control so that I don't have to go on any kind of meds) I wonder why I always feel exhausted by the time I get home from work!!!
We're all looking forward to the Pittsburgh get- together here!
Hugs,
Barb
