I'm looking for more info about the growth and development of children with DS. I read under the health issues forum that our kids tend to slow down around the age of 2. I have never heard this before. Yes...I've read how our kids can plateau and not progress along as quickly, but I just never heard it was within a particular age.
Ofcourse this is very interesting to me because Andrew is two. I would like to read more about this but can't seem to find anything about it (pertaining to age). Any helpful sites out there?
For those of you with older kids......did you notice this when your kids were inbetween 2 to 4 years old? Is it a real slowing of their growth....meaning you can actually tell a difference on a chart? Is this the same as far as overall development or is this just growth?
Sorry for all the questions, but this has really peaked my interest for some reason. Any input would be great. Thanks!

Growth spurts are caused by large purchases of new clothing and shoes....

But not if you buy them in sizes to be "grown into". Then the growth spurt will occur after you put these clothes away and forget where you put them.

You know.. until reading stuff on our health forum in that one post.. I never really paid much attention to it or knew if there are growth spurt and stop patterns in children w/DS. I know Russell didn't grow hardly at all from 1-4 yrs old... length or height. He stayed around 18-20 lbs for those years.. and was VERY small in stature. I always equated it to Russell's severe chronic reflux though. And the docs never said much... Russell ate well and was active so I guess I didn't think about it. I posted on the other thread.. but I will put here also.. Russell is 8 and is 42 inches tall, 44 lbs. He is petite even for DS.

Sarah was a tiny infant because of her heart. After recovering from heart surgery, she grew like a weed and hasn't stopped. She will be 5 in September and is 41 inches tall and 42 pounds. She towers over the other kids with Ds who are close to her age.

Nicholas was also very tiny as an infant because of his heart, he wasn't even 8 lbs when he had surgery at 3 mos! But, now at 3, he's 33 lbs and 37 inches. He's actually taller than his brother was at that age. I told my older son, wouldn't it be funny if he ended up taller than you and he's supposed to be short? He didn't find that as humorous as I did!

I think all our kids are different just as all kids are differnet.....Erin started tiny and has stayed tiny ( not from my genes I'm sorry to say ) .....she was just shy of 5 punds at birth and now at the age of 6....she is ALMOST at the 30 pound mark !! I have expressed concern, but all her docs say she is "progressly nicely" "plotting on a curve"...... She did maintain the same size ( not needed to buy anythign new ) for a littel over 2 years....between age 2.5 & 5......

Gwen...Isn't that the truth! Just when you buy new clothes they grow grow grow!
I am just curious about this. I gave all Andrew's summer clothes from last year to my SIL and now I'm upset that I have to buy new ones, and he could still fit into the same size as last year! I have to say he is a bit....hmmm how do I say this nicely...rounder in the middle...LOL....then last year but still fits into the same 18 month old clothes he wore last summer. Yeah...think I'll hold onto his winter clothes for awhile.
If anyone finds any sites about this...please pass in on!!! Thanks for your responses!!

Greg alway got round in the middle just befor shooting up. I think he fooled me three times into buying husky sizes and then next month I'd have to buy the next size up. There was even a time he went from husky to two sizes up slim. I worried thathe overate and then that didn't eat enough. But, children are our dearest concern. I'll always find something to worry about
