Yes we are home from the hospital and I am TOTALLY drained! What a day. As some of you know, Andrew has had some funny fevers lately and some balance issues as well. Today he woke up with another fever so I had finally had enough and called the Ped and told them in no uncertain terms that I wanted him to be seen today because I thought he might have another ear infection. Well...good thing I was so pushy on the phone. By the time I got to the Ped's office, Andrew was weezing (sp) (it kind of "whistled). The doctor who was on sick call today came right out and said she thoughtr he was having an asthma attack. I was shocked! All I kept saying was that Andrew doesn't have asthma. His oxygen levels were ranging from 88-91. They gave him a nebulizer treatment and it still didn't help. So they sent us for blood work as well as a chest x-ray. They found a spot on Andrew's lung that they believe is Pnemonia. GREAT!! Since they couldn't get his oxygen levels to come up they admitted him and told us we would have to stay overnight. After giving him what seemed like countless medicine, he fell asleep. When they took his oxygen reading while he was sleeping, it hit the 94-95 range. They checked it again sometime later and it was still in the 95 range which they said was ok. So after some begging on my part and promising to come back in the morning...they let us come home. We know have 3 different medicines and a nebulizer machine....uggghhhh!!!! So I am crossing my fingers that Andrew will sleep tonight because I am sooo wiped. Just wanted to update before I crash. Ohhh and by the way......my daughter woke up with a funny rash this morning so I had the doctor take a look at that too....guess what? CHICKENPOX!!!!!! Can you believe this? ? I need a break!!! (and a good stiff drink!!) -Trisha

Trisha, I am sorry to here about Andrew. When Collin was his age Pneumonia could hit in a flash without any typical symptoms....he never really had problems with breathing. He only had a very high fever and very lathargic. But, about those chicken pox!!! Can you FEDEX you daughter to me? Because I am looking for a chicken pox party. Collin hasn't had them yet and I really want to get it over with...Not a big fan of the vaccine. Connie

Thanks for the well wishes everyone! We went back to the doctor's this morning and although his oxygen levels are still low (94) they are much better then yesterday. Keeping my fingers crosed he will get even better tomorrow.
LOL Bob...believe it or not I am just too darn tired for any drinkls right now!
Connie...Ofcourse we are a very friendly family and love to share with others, a "pox party" sounds pretty good to me!
CC...I have never had the chickenpox either!! Both my older sons had them and I never got them. I'm thinking I must have some type of immunity or something.
Allisa....anyone is welcome to "hijack" any time!!! Doesn't bother me at all...actually excited to read yours!!!

Trisha,
I'm so sorry Andrew had pnuemonia, but so glad you went with your mommy's intuition and sought some medical assistance. I know I tend to have gut feelings and my husband tells me to wait, but when I go, there is always something wrong! I've learned that God has given us mom's a special intuition!

Poor kids and poor you mom. Hope things get better Our oldest son who is not DS and now 24 has had asthma since birth. His were due to mostly allergies. He still has quite a few and 2 very serious ones, peanuts and horses. He carries an epipen with him at all times. By the way if anyone has peanut allergies did you know that all ice-cream contains a small amount of peanut oil??? I didn't unitl our son had a terrible attack. Also when you get an ice cream cone, make sure they use a new schoop, as they sometimes just dip it in water, but if they previously used it on another flavor that had peanuts it is enough to cause great danger. We were always told that his O2 should be over 90 was good anyhting lower he should use meds or be seen bya physician. Just thought I'd give you a bit of info. Has he ever been checked for allergies?

No Claire....he has never been checked for allergies. But that is something to look into..thank you. About the O2.....they were not going to let us go home until it was 94-95 or better. Not sure why as this is the first time we have experienced anything like this with any of our kids.
But.....I just thought I would post my "new found knowledge" with all of you....LOL!!!
My daughter had chickenpox even though she had the vaccine...from what I understand they just don't get the high fever involved with it and most times it goes totally unnoticed because the spots can be so few. (I thought the vaccine meant they would NOT get chickenpox at all).
HOWEVER.........I found out that a complication of chickenpox is......you guessed it.....PNEUMONIA!!!! Hmmph! I don't know how they would be able to tell if it was the chickenpox that started all this (I will ask on Thursday when we go back)....but I just thought this was very interesting.
I think this is something people with little ones who get pneumonia often should be aware of.

bummer trisha! Glad they diagnosed the pnuemonia thing. Yikers, that's a bit scary. Funny how us moms have to push and push to follow our gut so the professionals can go "Oh, yeah-I guess we do have a problem.." good for you- sorry about the chicken pox too. I lost a whole month of summer to that about 5 years ago when Kaylee got right as school got out and then Emma 14 days later. Stuck at home for a whole month!!! cindy
