We went to Home Depot today and met the nicest woman! We had just parked and were walking across the parking lot when we heard a woman yelling to us..."excuse me, excuse me". Now my first thought was that I had dropped something and this nice woman was returning it. Nope....her next sentence was.....your son is so cute. ;D To which my very quick husband replied..."yup, just like his father". LOL! This woman (I'm sorry I forgot her name already ) also had a son with DS who was 24 (not with her unfortunately). He graduated high school and is working at a supermarket, which he loves. She also told us about a friend of hers that has a daughter with DS that is about 35 years old and married. Yup...married! I could have stayed and talked with her all day!! She was so sweet. It's so nice to meet other parents who have "been there done that"...kwim? I always seem to meet someone when I least expect it, and you know what? It seems like I meet them when I really need a little "pick me up". This woman gave me the pick me up I needed. Ahhh...life is good! ;D -Trisha

That was very friendly of her to "call out to you" and very outgoing! Sometimes I wish I had it in me!
Sounds like she had some awesome first hand knowledge of great success stories!

I wish I "had it in me" too Dawn! You know, I have a really hard time telling if a child has DS most of the time. I guess that's because I am around Andrew so much that I honestly don't see the difference.
We were at Horse therapy last week and there was a little boy who had just finished his lesson as we were arriving. His parents seemed sort of "overjoyed" to see us. I thought maybe they knew us or something but just kind of let it go. Well, Jeff was talking to one of the owners while we were riding and he told Jeff the little boy had DS. I felt so bad and upset that I had let this poor family go without talking to them. But I honestly couldn't tell! I hope we get another chance to meet up with them, so I can talk with them a bit.

I am just like that woman from the Home Depot. I go up to people all the time, Ds or not! Maybe that's why it's not so difficult for me to talk to people who have someone with Ds with them.
I have yet to meet someone who was offended with the fact that I told them I have a child with Ds or introduce them to Alethea or whatever the case may be.
I joked about it in my Dollywood thread, but I really believe we belong to a secret world wide club and the people in it (not just the ones with Ds) are "generally" the nicest you'll meet.
That's been my experience.
