Hi, Everyone. My name is Martha and I have a 2 month old son with DS, [glow=orange,2,300]Aidan[/glow] (we had no idea he had DS until his birth). This is all very new to me so I'm reading everything I can get my hands on and researching like crazy online. Any advice from you old pros out there? Thanks, Martha

Hi, Martha, and welcome! I also have an Aidan, he is 20 months old, and he's such a joy! I am a new member to Uno Mas, also, and from what I have seen & read, this is a very supportive group who can answer any questions you have about your new little one. I can't wait to hear more about your Aidan.

Hi Martha! And welcome to Uno Mas! I am Alice and I have 3 sons (19, 11, and 2 1/2 DS). I remember that time when my son, Luke, was 2 month old (frankly I do not want to remember that time). I was very sad and mad that my son had DS, but (as my grandma used to say:" Time is the best Doctor"). And sure thanks to UNO MAS that am fine now. ;D Come here and ask any questions you have or give us your fresh look 8) . Sometimes we do not have common ground on some topics, but this is because we all have our own opinions . Which is normal. Congrats with your new baby, Aidan! I wish him good health and happiness. Good luck! Alice.

Thanks to everyone who has replied with their good wishes. I do feel a little overwhelmed at times, but Aidan is just so normal that it's hard for me to believe that he has any disabilities at all. The only significant problem he has in association with his DS is a small atrial septal defect which can be fixed non-surgically if necessary when he's a little older. Everything else is just fine. He does have some Down's features (ie. epicanthal folds, Palmer's crease in his left hand), but overall, he's just a normal little kid, full of life. I guess they all are at this age. I just am not looking forward to when (and if) he starts having serious developmental delays. We've started him on NuTriVene- D and so far, so good. Does anyone else out there have their children on the nutritional intervention program? By the way, Staci, are you guys Irish? I just wondered because Aidan is a traditional Irish name and my husband's family are originally from Ireland. Well, thanks again everyone. I hope to post pictures soon. Martha

Hey again, Martha.. To answer your question, no, nobody in our family is Irish, I just have always loved the name. When I was pregnant, after my husband and I found out we were having a little boy, I started calling him Aidan. When I looked up the meaning and origin, I loved what the name meant. His middle name is Matthew, and we didn't know until after we had Aidan that Matthew means gift from God. I thought that was kind of neat, though. My little fire from God. I had never heard the name (besides Aidan Quinn, the actor) but now I'm hearing it more and more. Then, just recently, we discovered that my husband has an ancestor who was named this, spelled Aden. What a coincidence! . Staci

Hi, Staci.
Yes, I too have always loved the name Aidan (and Aidan Quinn sure is cute!). My husband didn't at first, but he came around. I also wanted my Aidan's middle name to be Matthew, but I already have a nephew with that name so we picked Anthony (hubby's middle name) after my husband. He is my "little priceless fire", although I also feel he is a gift of God. I hope your Aidan is doing well and has no health problems. Keep in touch, ok?
Martha
