My father has Shingles. He has been experiencing pain and discomfort for three weeks and more. Now my father is an avid golfer. We have had such wonderful weather for this month and last. He even was able to visit the library and check out some golf books. I think they are the type that a golfer shares with the reader what has worked for him and he is writiing what has helped him. My Dad has been reading these books. I really know nothing about Shingles. My grandfather had it really bad when I was much younger. My father broke out some but not a whole lot. He has had some good days and days where the pain was so bad he had to lay down. I was just wondering if anyone here can tell me, maybe you Susan, how long one suffers from this? I know it is probably individual as far as experience goes, but, it has been three weeks and more. He is probably having a good to moderate day today. I just feel bad for him.
I am doing good though with my Forteo shots. Once it is a habit, and I am good at routines you know, it like second nature to me now. Do you think anyone would be interested in an unpublished writer writing an article on having to do this for herself? I thought I might give it a shot. ;D

Thanks.

Hi Debbie,
I'll be praying for your dad. I can understand feeling bad for someone we love who doesn't feel well. I feel terrible when my children are sick. There is so very little we can do make it all better.
I'm not experienced with shingles. I do know they are painful and can last quite a long time. Hope he's feeling better quite soon.
As far as your book goes, give it a shot! Why not! I think it's exciting when someone tries something. You'll never know unless you try. Right?

Hello,
My aunt had shingles a few years ago. It was around her belly area. She did say it was extremely painful. I believe once the sores start to fade, she started to feel better. It was at least a month that she was in pain. I do hope your Dad feels better really soon. If he is having some good days now, then I believe that is a really good sign. Many prayers for your Dad, I hope he feels better really soon.
Also, I would say go for writing the book. You have a wonderful way of expressing yourself and I think it would be a great new adventure for you!!

My mother and sister-in-law both experienced shingles. Mom's ran around the area where the bra hooks, and my sister-in-law had them in nearly the same place. They both were bothered for at least five to six weeks. Shingles are very painful, and just have to run their course much like a cold sore or fever blister.

Hope your Dad is feeling like himself again soon. I don't know much about shingles other than they are very painful. Sounds like you are frustrated that you aren't able to help get rid of the shingles, I'm sure you're doing more than you know to keep his spirits up, and that can help a ton! Make sure to take good care of yourself too though!
I thinK you should give your article a shot, could be a great stress reliever for you, plus beneficial for others. Let us know how you are progressing!

Prayers to your Dad, Debbie. My mother-in-law had them and man do they linger and cause so much pain. Glad to hear your doing well with the shots. You're right, once things become habit. I remember when I had to give Emily those dreaded ACTH shots. Ugh! I think you should give a try at writing that article!

Debbie...sorry to hear about your Dad...why don't you give Ed a call...he had shingles years ago himself. I am working in his office part time now so might even answer the phone myself....LOL.
Go for it...write that article...and you still need to write the book we talked about ...about what it feels like to be a person with DS...no one can say it as well as you could. We need to find a mentor for you.

Debbie,
Prayers going out for your Dad. Its always hard to watch someone we love in pain, and can make you feel pretty helpless. Sounds like they are going to have watch out for him on the golf course when he gets feeling better though!
Keep us posted....
