Poor little Alethea is on a 20 day dose of Omnicef for a sinus infection and here we are on vacation, she developed the dreaded yeast infection. Yes she is eating yogurt very regularly. So tomorrow, I am off to find a health food store to get acidophilus to fight the yeast infection. I feel so badly for her little red rashy diaper area.
Just complaining. Sorry!

Poor Alethea! Does it clear up with the acidophilus, or can you get a topical ointment for yeast from a Dr? And 20 days for an antibiotic! Wow! Hope she's feeling good enough to enjoy her vacation!

Thanks guys! Valerie, this is a 20 days dose after finishing a 10 day dose of Augmentin that didn't touch the infection. I wouldn't have taken her back for the runny nose (I can live with that), but the fever and the runny nose, no deal!
I gave her break today from the antibiotic and gave her an extra yogurt and her acidophilus tonight. Her yeast infection seemed to subside just a bit overnight too. I'm hoping to clear it up without more medication.
We'll see. She is a trooper though. Always (well, 99% of the time) so happy. She goes along with anything! May she always be that way!

I use clotrimazole on Yosh when he gets a diaper rash from a yeast infection and it works great. You can find it in gynalotrimine or athletes foot cream, which is cheaper.

The yeast infection is gone and I've done away with the anitbiotics. Checking into some other cures.

Bag Balm worked wonders for Regan's chronic yeast infection she had from birth to 2 yrs old.

Eric was on antibiotics for weeks at a time also....we were last on Omnicef for 3 weeks ...they sometimes will recommend antibiotics for up to a month for chronic sinusitis. Eric was on the omnicef so long his stools looked red...not from blood, but from the omnicef interacting with the iron in his body...happens some times. We're praying his recent T&A will cut back on the sinus infections...last winter/spring was really ruff. Dolly

Don't all of those side effects scare you?! It can't be good for them, can it?

Valarie,
what I worry about is that Eric's system will become immune to antibiotics....and they won't work anymore for him. I'm looking into ways to help boost his immunity from this...not easy, with him in pre-school. But hope the removal of the tonsils and adnoids will help the drainage and it won't just "lay" up inside his head...that usually causes the infection. Dolly
