Hello to Everyone, My name is Beth and I am 41 years of age. And the mother of Patrick whom is 19 years of age. We live in Nebraska and Patrick attends a workshop here and gets to work on different contracts and earn a small paycheck. Which I think is wonderful and tickles him to death when he gets it. He was born with severe ds and does not talk and his balance isn't that great but is a very loveable and affection boy. Took him last night to cash his check which was only 3 bucks but when we got to the store he finds himself this real bright red shirt and ends up asking for 2 more dollars from mom so he could get it. Was a very precious and funny moment cuz the way he asked for it. He signed 2 and money and gave me the big puppy dog eyes which there is noway I could resist. So he got his shirt and wore it proudly to school today.

Hi Beth. I hope it's ok to ask..did your son get another dx besides DS? I have been noticing in the past year there seems to be an increase of dual diagnosis for kids with DS. My son for instance also has an ASD dx...though I havent decided yet if I totally accept it or not lol. Has your son had many behavioral issues? That's beena major concern with my son. Lol yes my kiddo loves this magna doodle. He has 2...and often takes them everywhere and wants people to draw with him..hehe hey he's sharing right!

Hello Beth and Patrick!
Beth, loved the story...sounds like he is a charmer! I am Dolly, age 49yrs. My hubby is Roy. we have 6 kids between us...Kimberly age 32; Heather, age 27;(they are my sweet stepdaughters); Matt, age 22; Mike, age 20; Megan, age 19; and last but not least, our little Eric, age 2; (he'll be 3 June 27). He's is our only child together; He was born at 31 weeks gestation and weighed a whopping 3lbs-2oz. We found out he had down syndrome when he was about 3 weeks old. He just started walking, and tries to say words. He is a beautiful child, (like all the kids here), and we all love him to pieces! You will totally enjoy this site; wonderful people, and very informative; You can laugh, cry, vent, go crazy...anything is acceptable...try and join us in chat on Sunday and Thursday nights, about 9pm. Its fun! Once again, welcome..and look forward to talking to you.

Patrick was diagonised with ds when he was 3 months then when he was 3 he was tested for his fine motor skills and attention span and everything else. They tryed to tell me that Patrick has a very short attention span. I will admit at somethings he does but so does all kids. But other things like CMT and the Wiggles he has a great attention span. Can't get him out of front of the tv......lol. But yea they also tryed to tell me that he has ADD which I do not believe. When they tested him at 3 he had one crying fit and refused to do what they wanted but when I told them it was cuz it was past his nap time they were like that wasn't normal for a child to get that upset when missing their nap. Told them to go home stay up all night and then see just how cranky they would be the next day. He has his days like everyone but I can't believe hes ADD. When printing sometimes he will print letters and numbers backwards or miss some of them. Have concerns he is dislextic.

Thanks for the warm welcome Dolly and Eric . Patrick finally started walking when he was 4. He turned over for the first time at 1 year old. I am looking forward to get to chat with all of you here. Setting here typing and this cute and funny story came to mind. My husband is a truck driver and boy does Patrick love going on the big truck with him. We all were on the truck one day waiting for my husband to get his next load and Patricks setting in the front passenger seat and he has an invisible friend that he talks to at times. Well he was setting there and his friend is setting in the drivers seat. So Patricks setting there shaking his finger towards the drivers seat telling his friend all about the truck and how to drive it.....lol. He then puts his hand up to his mouth and starts to jibber like hes talking on the C.B. and waving his hand at other drivers like he was telling them get out of the way or watch out my friends driving....lol. Was so cute.

Welcome Beth and Patrick!
Cassie loves her Magna Doodle, too, but will not share it with ANYONE except Marissa. Her therapists have all tried to draw on it and BOY does she get mad!

Hi Beth and Patrick,
Welcome to Unoland... you will love it here.. What a great story about Patrick and his puppy dog eyes... what a little heart breaker!
I am Cathy, mom to Katie who is 2 1/2 and her older sister EMily (4).. We live in the total opposite end of MI from Jackie... We live in the Western Upper Peninsula. If it wasn't for the wonderful people here at Unomas I am not sure that I could have survived the past few years. They have taught me so much about all the positives in DS. Katie is a funny, bright happy 2 year old.. altho...I will say she is starting to really take advantage of her cuteness.
She is beginning the terrible 2's and that extra chromosome is rearing its ugly head in the temper department... but its a good thing she is so cute.. or man oh man I can't tell you what would happen.
Well please post up some more wonderful stories about Patrick and once again, WELCOME!
Hugs,
Cathy
