Thought I'd share with you guys....
University of Rochester and the Strong Center for Developmental Disabilites is just starting a study of kids in New York State ( but not living in NYC) who have DS and are between the ages of 3 and 13 years old. They'll be examining the relationship between defernt behaviors that kids w/ DS have and how they might relate to other medical disorders ( will be looking for patters of behavioral and medical problems in kids w/ DS including the pattern of behaviors used to diagnose Autism and ASD).
I filled out a series of questions for Alison as part of the first step of the study. The initial study group is 1145 families, out those at least 850 families will be interwieved in step 2, and in step 3 a max of 50 kids will be assessed. All the kids in step 3 will come from our area ( Western New York).
Apparently University of Rochester is getting funding from the CDC to do the study.
Should be interesting to see what is learned from this.
