We went up to the Clinic yesterday to see Eric's surgeon for a problem with a undescended testicle. We've been watching it for awhile, but our doc thought it was time to see a surgeon. Our favorite doctor, the one that did Eric's colostomy closure, is moving to Hackensack New Jersey to head up a new pediatric hospital. I was heartsick when I learned this...I really like this guy, Dr. Fredrick Alexander, and had alot of faith in him. We saw his collegue, Dr. Defiore, who seemed very knowledgeable. He felt that Eric would need surgery to correct the problem. Its about a two hour procedure and tho its usually done outpatient, I requested that Eric stays overnight. He wants to do it over Christmas break, but after some thought, I might wait till springtime. Eric is usually sick with some kind of sinus thing all winter. On and off antibiotics for weeks....so I think I'll wait. The doc said it wasn't an emergency, so I don't think it will be a problem. Has anyone's little guy had this surgery? I was hoping the darn thing would stay down in its little sac, but not to be. Not looking forward to another surgery, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Awww, sorry to hear he is going to have to go through surgery. I think that's a good idea to wait until spring. If it's not an emergency, why not get through the holidays on a happy note!

"is moving to Hackensack New Jersey" WoW nooo kidding girl, Hackensack is only bout 20 min. from me Hey its only fair you have that GREAT Cleveland Clinic that we get least one of your GREAT Docs Chris had the surgery for "undescended testicle" when he was 5 years old. Honestly girl this was one of his easier ones. He was in and out the same day and very little discomfort. He did run a slight temp for a day or so BUT all in all it really was an easy one for him. Actually he had a hernia repair at the same time. I know each surgery is different for everyone and you can bet Prayers will be going out from New Jersey for Mr. Eric. Post up the date when you know K. CC

Justin had this done when he was 3 (I think) he did really good, we had to be there at 6am and we were home around 3pm and he did really good. They just went in and tied both testicle's down and it was over, he has one little scare across his little sac.

My oldest son had the procedure done. The Dr. found the beginnings of a hernia and fixed that and also had to open up the slit that he urniates out of. He had three things done and was up and out of the surgery center in no time flat. He recovered much faster than I ever imagined! Probably doesn't hurt to make sure he's healthy, since anesthesia is involved though! Hope Eric's procdure is as uneventful as ours! Dawn

Charlie had bilateral orchidopexy done at about age 2 by same excellent urologic surgeon at CHOP who had fixed his hypospadius about 6 months earlier. It was uneventful day surgery. Think we got an ophthalmology fellow to get a quick pressure check on his glaucoma just as they put him out for the urology procedure. Believe the recovery was also pretty easy, but it was a while ago. Afterwards urologist said don't need to see him again until he hits puberty. Whether the procedure would be easier or more difficult in a 6 or 7 yo than a 2 yo, I don't know. -- Bob
