Oh you guys, I feel so bad for my little guy! We were having a GREAT morning... started off with the countdown (12 more sleeps) then we set off to make pancakes. We were done cooking, the frying pan was set to the back of the stove. For some reason (I think he thought he was helping clean-up, maybe trying to put the pan in the sink?) Ryan grabbed the handle. I wish the story ended there! The pan was too heavy, so while holding the handle with his left hand, he reached further up the handle with his right (I swear it seemed like I was moving in slow motion trying to stop him ) and he ended up grabbing way to close to the pan... burned his thumb, web, and part of his palm. I was sitting on the kitchen floor holding him and talking to him about hot pots/pans, etc trying to explain they stay hot for a long time. This is the first time he has ever been burned. We are so careful with him around the oven... it just happened so fast! He's doing okay tonight. His blister on his thumb already popped, and he asked for medicine (motrin) about an hour ago... poor guy! This is going to take some time to heal since he is such a picker. If you guys have any suggestions about how to help him heal, I (and Ryan) would appreciate any advice. He won't keep a band-aide on which is probably better that it gets air anyways - he's just already constantly rubbing it Jodi

OUCH Jodi............sorry to hear that! I'd definitely call the doc and ask for a prescription for Silvadene cream. It's awesome stuff, helps burns heal, and more importantly........fights infection. Seems like it would feel much better if you covered the whole area in this cream (it has kind of a soothing feel to it) and then did like a boxers glove thing with gauze. Maybe he'd leave it on there if it made it feel better? Hope it heals quickly! Susan

OH man.. Poor Ryan!!! You know, it's bound to happen with ANY of use cookers!!! I know we don't want our kids to get burned and it is SO painful... but it happens to the best of us! I never heard of this cream, Silvadene but I do know you are suppose to keep burns dry and some gauze would be good until it starts healing. There is burn info in the front of yellow/white pages books or even call local burn centers.
My mom burned her leg very bad years ago and she was putting stuff on that she shouldn't have and I was like NO NO NO.. and she should have gone to the hospital actually so they could dress it properly but she didn't want to do that. I wasn't to thrilled about her stubbornness either! LOL
HUGS to Ryan!!!
