Hi All: My name is Tracy London and I am new to Uno Mas. I have two boys Jacob 8 and Drew 4. Jacob was born with DS. Other than 5 sets of tubes in his ears Jacob is a very healthy/happy boy.He has been in intervention since we found out he had DS at 2 weeks old. (PT,OT,ST,OO) He has not had PT and OO for over a year Yeah!! He teaches my family things every day. He is a true blessing!
Jacob goes to an elementary school and is in the 2nd grade class 40% of the time. He just got a new special Ed teacher. His old teacher was a male and a wonderful teacher. The new teacher is concerned with some behavior problems. Acting out in class, refusing to do his work. Making Farting noises, saying NO. I feel he may be testing her still. By the way he does great for the Special Ed assistant that he's known for 3 years. Jacob listens to his Dad alot more than he does me. He says no to me and refuses to do alot of the things I ask of him. I'm not sure if this is typical for his age or if it's something I should be concerned about. Any suggestions or advise on this behavior issue?
Tracy

Tracy,
I just wanted to say welcome! I personally think it is typical for kids to listen to dad's more than moms even those without disabilities. :-)

Welcome to Uno mas. I think that when it comes to listening to parents all children are different in who they will listen to more. We have 4 children, my 2 older boys listened to me more, my daughter listens to dad a lot more (she is deffinetly Daddy's little girl.) And Adam 8 born with Down syndrome also listens more to dad. Our 2 older kids are now 30 and 25 and our daughter is 10. I think maybe I just got softer after Adam was born. After all I did have to have more patience, and bring my expectations down a bit. Just my thought. PS: Could also be that I am older and maybe wiser. ;D ;D

Welcome to Uno Mas. I have nothing to contribute as a grandma who lives 1800 miles away, but Abby is only 19 months old anyway so we don't know who she'll listen to when she's bigger :-)

Tracy, WELCOME to Unomas!!! I have 3 kids 13, 8 and 6. My 8 yr old, Russell, has DS. My other two are girls Sounds like Jacob probably is testing the new teacher if you ask me. I'd make sure they nip that in the bud quick or Jacob might know who he can take advantage of! LOL Glad you found us.. can't wait to hear more about your family!!! A.
