Hi! My name is Alice and I am mom to Maggie- who turns 1 on February 5th! Maggie has had a tough first year - in addition to having DS he was born 10 weeks premature and in October we found out she has Infantile Spasms. She is now on Depakote for the Spasms and has been seizure free since mid-October! (Knocking wood here!!!)
I am a stay mom and an Army wife. We currently live in Germany where my husband is stationed but we are due to return to the states this summer.
That's all here - I look forward to "meeting"you all!

Whoo, Ds and 10 weeks early. Yep, BTDT (been there, done that). Can be a rough combination and make for a rocky start. Charlie kept us pretty busy for his first couple of years. But then things settled down. Early days main issue we had to deal with was congenital cataracts. No experience with infantile seizures; you'll have to compare notes with Cbean on that one. Somewhere along the way, around age 3 or so, Charlie developed autism. So, he's not a very good candidate for a Down syndrome poster child. But at 7 years old, he's a pretty healthy little dude. And too cute for his own good. Welcome to Uno Mas. Hope you like it here. -- Bob

Welcome Alice and congrats on the Maggie getting to the big #1 birthday in a few days. Have a great party...my neighbors daughter is on the same meds for seizures and she's been seizure free for 2 years! ;D She doesn't have ds-- Germany? Wow? Wondering what the moral of those in the service is like right now? All this controversy over here with G.Bush's policies..not trying to get into a political debate--just wonder how you all are doing? My brother did a stint in the Army-101 Airborne...on the DMZ in Korea-

Hi all and thanks for the welcome! I don't mind the political questions at all! Although it may surprise most to know that military people tend to be sort of "apolitical." Sure all have individual beliefs and thoughts on issues, but the bottom line is that there is a job to get done, and the soldiers go out and do it. As for the morale issue - we are sort of insulated over here in Germany. You may have heard things about Europeans not supporting us - but I am here to tell you we have had nothing but GOOD experiences with Europeans over here. In fact, the only person we have run into in our travels who said nasty things about soldiers was an American we met in a hotel in Austria. Anyway, I think when we get back to the states we are going to be a bit surprised by all the feelings and opinions of the civilian world. It is a tough time to be a soldier - or a soldier's wife! - and words of support are always appreciated.

Alice- Well, you certainly have my support. ;D I think it is disgusting that the only words of insult and nastiness come from an actual American! That's the problem with our country--where is the pride? UGH!!! WHO-AH! cindy

Hi Alice, welcome aboard. My identical twins with DS were born as 29 weekers. I lost Jordan at 13 days, and my survivor Justin has had a rough 4 years. He has multiple med issues....came off O2 at 2 1/2 yrs old (but goes back on it if very compromised) and is 100% tube fed. I definately understand your position there. As for the overseas thing, my family was abroad for a total of 4 yrs....Frankfort Base BTW is awesome. My Dad was a civilian (retired naval officer) who worked at the base in Greenham Common to help train the military. It was a blast....and you are correct....the Europeans are great people and I miss every day spent there.
Anyway, thanks for joining.

Hi all and thanks! We will probably be going back to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas for a short while (less than a year) before moving on to another location. We won't know where THAT will be until we get to Kansas! Ah, the life of an always-mobile Army family.
