Missed the story on Oprah show (rats!!!) and we're THRILLED to see Carrie and Sujeet continuing to draw media attention! Their story is so inspiring to us - and what an awesome couple!
My husband and I are actually a little surprised at the coverage because we thought marriage was more common among people with DS. Does anybody know of more couples who have married and could share their stories with this group? Would love to hear more!
Thx! Danielle

Oh there are lots. Just google "wedding down syndrome" or "marriage down syndrome". There have been several in the news over the past few years, and I'm sure many more that haven't been.

It's one of my dreams for Zane (for all my children, really) to find someone to share life with....how exciting for Matt!!! Girl - miss you TONS!!! Life is good but stressful at times. Hectic and fun. Kids are great. All doing well. All a little crazy. Love every minute of it. (Well, 9 out of every 10 minutes maybe? LOL) Haven't been here in ages but miss this place. Thought I'd pop in and engage for a little while. Hope you guys are all well. Kodi Lee settled on a college yet? We MUST email....more later. XOXOXOXO Big cyber hugs. Dani

Hmmm Dani, I don't know where in MA you're from, but I live in north central Ma. The director of EI (Reach program) has a daughter with DS who is married. She has been married 4 years now (I think). She is married to a "typical" guy.....no disabilities.
Thanks Leah, I never thought of Googling it before. I just love inspiring stories!!!

Hi Trisha!
WOW - that's so cool!! We didn't do EI here in MA (we moved here two years ago just as Zane was starting pre-K) so I never met her but that is really awesome to hear.
We're north of Boston...I'll email you directly for more info. ;D
Take care, Danielle

Hey Dani girl ;D Yup Matt is in Love ;D and he talks of getting married to his girlfriend. Janice tells me that if he brings in up still in two years she will take him more serious bout it all. Anywho I have not met her yet but in June we are giving Kodi Lee a 18th B-Day/Graduation party and Matt and his g/f are on the guest list. I'll send you photos. "We MUST email....more later" YES we must, been way to long CC ~

Emily used to talk of marriage...and in fact it sort of hit home about 8 years ago when she came home one night after a dinner date with Elvis (remember...her non DS boyfriend who drove the red truck??) Seems they had somehow joined up with Elvis's parents and ended up windowshopping at the Mall for.......engagement rings!
Em came home and went straight to her room where I heard these HUGE sobs coming from her. At this point in her life she was not that good at expressing her deep emotions to me...so I didn't know if I would find out the reason or not when I went in.
She literally THREW her arms around me and sobbed...the story out....ending with ...I AM JUST NOT READY....boo hoo...boo hoo...
She was totally freaked out and scared at the reality of the whole thing at this point. I told her not to worry that I didn't think they were ready either...
This seemed to sort of put an end to most of the "marriage" talk with her although if asked now days if she might want to get married...she answers ....maybe...and changes the subject.
I think a "romantic affair"might be more her cuppa tea these days...LOL. She knows that life would be much more difficult away from her room at Katie's.
