Allisa...I didnt get to see any details but I read the head lines and instantly thought of your Ty!!!!! It said "Stem Cell treatment shows promise for type 1 diabetes" Have you heard anything about this? Wouldnt that be exciting if there was a breakthru that would help Ty? ?? What do you think, is it for real? hugs and prayers hoping for this miracle! Robin

Thanks for thinking of us Robin.....it does look very promising ! Their hope is that they can regrow the islet cells that produce insulin and re-introduce them in the body www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=102825 Ty & I joined the JDRF campaign last year.....went to local state reps and a senator to spread the word about stem cell research....put a face to the disease, etc.....as you can imagine.,....Erin stole the show and we had to remind them we were there for TY !! One of the reps we met.....his assistant told me he was a "cured" diabetic.....he had Type 1 ( for close to 30 years) and had a pancreatic transplant. Has been fine for 5 years. I've wondered why they don't do it more....but from what I have read....it is very invasive, not very succesful, and doen only as a alast resort. I've read a few different promising studies.....one in Canada has found neurons that seem to "control" the islet cells and insulin production....when these cells were "turned off" insulin production started right away....these studies were done on mice who were given type 1....not sure how they gave them type 1 hhmmm.... I pray all the time for a cure......it is a mind-boggling thing and it is growing.....meida and advertising keeps talking about increase of type 2 in children and the need for exercise,etc.....BUT......type 1 is growing in leaps & bounds as well and they just don;t get the same attention.....and with the 2 disease having the same name it is VERY confusing.....because the are NOT at all the same disease !! Anyways....thanks for thinking of us.....and I'll get off my soapbox now !

Allisa, I'll pray for a cure too.......for Ty, and for SO many others!!!!!
Just a thought, but I wonder if there is so much media attention related to type 2 Diabetes because there really CAN be something done to prevent it. Our lifestyles.....what we eat and what we do (or do NOT do, as in being more active) plays a big part in Type 2; Non Insulin Dependent Diabetes. And there has been so much info out there lately on the high numbers of obese children; placing them at risk of Type 2. (Not true with Type 1) Maybe they are showering attention on that to encourage kids and adults to do whatever it takes to prevent IT, whereas Type 1 is so different. I don't mean to say this is the way it should be..........but maybe they are trying to "reach" the population who are able to help to prevent Type 2.

Absolutely Susan you hit it right on the head....it makes sense to educate people about prevention and putting an end to a controllable disease. But it is a bummer when people ask Ty if he is sorry he ate so much sugar and now he has this......or a good friend of mine telling her kids to eat their veggies so they don't get Diabetes....too bad Ty didn't eat his...... Then you think of ALL the diseases that wreaking havoc......and let's not even start on the upswing of Autism ( 1 out of 150 is the NEW stat)......let's pour some of our war money into research !! Okay....LOL.....REALLY getting off the soapbos and PUTTING it AWAY !! LOL Continue on with a happy hump day !!

LOL Allisa....Susan has to go to work and the kids have to go to school. She doesnt have the week off like I do and her kids dont have the week off like ours do. They do the extended school year thing whereas they go so many weeks and then have a couple weeks off and then do it again, something like that. And you keep right on your soap box, I get so angry that we use money in such silly ways, just waste and there is so much need to find cures for things. I won't even start with sending people to the moon or unmanned spaceships to Mars, I just wonder who decides what is important and how to spend our tax dollars! Okay, I too will shut up, I am just so tired of these diseases that should have had cures by now seeming to get worse. hugs, Robin

LOL Allisa.........I'm never up THAT early. But I had to go to a meeting for work in Knoxville, and it's in Eastern time zone so we had to leave here EARLY!! I usually look forward to those meetings for work in the "big city" cause we always manage to go out to eat (at some place we don't have here) and do a bit of shopping. This time, we drove straight there and were bored to tears all day and drove straight home!!! I was so bummed, I had to make things right.........I went straight to the mall and bought Em a skirt!!
I'm hoping tomorrow morning, you will NOT see me posting at 4:30am!
