We had Ryan Triannual today. With all the progress he has made, his IQ dropped significantly and he was rated as severly delayed in almost all areas. This kind of news always hits me. I know he is delayed, but seeing it in black and white for some reason is hard to swallow. And I know that the tests can't possibly measure all that he is capable of, but man oh man, it still stinks to read the results He will be going to different school next year. Everyone one his team will be different except for the beh. spc. I can't stand change, so I'm hoping things will go well. Jodi

Jodi...huge hugs to you ! It is so hard to see it in black and white and official. I always steel myself for it and tell myself that I KNOW what it's going to say, so don't be upset by it, but when I read it ....or God Fordbid.....say it OUT LOUD......the tears automatically appear. I hope the new school will be a good fit. I, too hate change, BUT.....sometimes I think having a whole new teacher with a whole new set of expectations and thoughts who haven't already "figured it all out" and will be open and ready for new stuff is good. I wish you luck and try not to linger over those results.....take them for what they are.....the tool to get him more and better services......

Jodi ~ You may already know but just in case.... If you don't agree with the results you can and are entitled to request independent testing. Or you could just due it on your own. I can relate girl, Chris hates change OMG I mean truly hates it and when we moved him from his one school to another I was a total wreck BUT you know what, he did just GREAT. The new school for him was a perfect fit Did you pick the new school/program that Ryan will be attending? I know it easy for me to say BUT you may be very surprised that this might just be a good thing CC ~

Allisa - Thanks... you get exactly what I am feeling. Everytime someone asks me "how did it go" I start crying. Char - hope you are right A... OMG you are coming to CA??? Can you make it a somewhat short trip LOL Would love to meet you! As far as testing, they allowed his responses on the device to count. Everything was on the up and up - but I did request that they add in the notes about Ryan's abilities outside of testing. I mentioned that I was concerned that the new team next year would have very little expectations of Ryan if they just go off the report. What is crazy is if you read the report, you would think there is NO WAY Ryan could use the communication device the way he does - it doesn't match up. I even mentioned about that because he is going to be evaluated for a newer device in the next month. I was concerned that the district would read the report and say "why bother?" I get a copy of the IEP today to review it all - I never sign it the day of the meeting - I need time to absorb the info (and I will probably go through another box of kleenix). CC - it wasn't that I don't agree. I could have him tested again, and there may be some improvements. Have you heard of conservation tests (pennies or water)? Anyway - Ryan doesn't get conservation - but it is an emerging skill. I know the gap will continue to widen as Ryan gets older, but I'm going to try to keep my chin up and have high expectations. I think he can rise to the occaision. I know I need to give the new school a chance - I'm just crazy about avoiding any kind of change even though I know it could be a good thing - I'm just a chicken! Thanks gals! Jodi
