Shrek 3 opened in our town last night, and we thought it would be cool to take Joy and a friend to see it. My older daughter went up to buy tickets at 5 PM for the 7 PM show, and we were on our way.
When we got to the theater for the show, they had oversold tickets and no seats were available for the show we planned on seeing. However, another one was starting at 7:40, so the theater exchanged our tickets.
I took Joy and Brooke outside to play since we had quite a wait in front of us. They were happily running around in the grass when Joy suddenly stopped, yelled "Mom! Potty!" and wet her pants. Grrr. So my husband had to get out of line (where he was patiently waiting so we could get 5 seats together), get Joy in the car and take her home to change her. This is a 15-minute drive one way, so we were really cutting it close.
I took Joy's friend inside the theater and got her some popcorn, and went in to sit in the seats my daughter had saved for us. Brooke was very concerned about Joy, and asked several times if Joy would be back in time for the beginning of the movie. I kept saying yes, even though I wasn't even sure.
Well lo and behold they made it back right as the movie was starting and all was well. The girls had their treats and happily started watching the movie. That lasted about 20 minutes. Then Brooke had to use the restroom, then Joy was cold, then Brooke was hungry, then Joy was scared, then Brooke missed her mommy and daddy, then Joy was tired... It was a nightmare and I'm pretty certain we were really ticking off the people behind us, but by that point I just didn't care.
I finally got them calmed down once again, and then someone behind us spilled their pop, and it all came down and pooled up right at our feet. So I spent the last half of the movie with my feet (wearing flip flops) in a puddle of pop goo. It was so fantastic.
Truly, I cannot tell you what that movie was about. I barely watched it, but did get to see the cute Shrek babies. They were adorable!
Moral of the story...next time I will wait for the DVD to come out. It will save me $50, and my sanity!
Upside of the story is that Joy's friend is from her typical kindergarten class and these two girls just love each other. Joy cracks Brooke up, and Brooke both helps and sticks up for Joy. It's a pretty great relationship.
