Howdy y'all, My name is Joby and as you can tell I am the proud father of Elizabeth. My wife Sheryl and I were blessed by her birth on March 12 of this year. Her diagnosis was a complete surprise. I am glad that y'all are here and that we can communicate with like minded people. We hope to meet you and build lifelong friendships.
We hail from Michigan and would like to hear from some of you so that we can get the most up-to-date info.
Thanks, Joby

Hi, Joby. I was born in Michigan, but moved to Oregon when I was five.
Our son, Joshua, is two. We didn't know about his diagnosis until he was born, either, although we had certainly considered the possibility, since I was 45 at the time. We have five other kids.
Nice to "meet" you.

Ah ha! Welcome to Uno Land. Always good to see a dad here. Trust you'll get around to telling us how beautiful Elizabeth is. One piece of advice to start off. Don't ever post a photo like this, Not terribly flattering. Your wife'll kill you. Yeah. And what's with this "howdy, ya'll" stuff? You from western Michigan or southern Michigan? -- Bob

Hey there! I'm new to the group as well. For the few days that I've been here, I've been made to feel more than welcomed. It's a great place Elizabeth is about 5 weeks ahead of my Chase. We were also completely surprised by his diagnosis. We'll be learning about all of this together! -Laurie

I'm not Joby, I'm Sheryl: Joby's wife. But to clear up the confusion: his Y'all's come from the fact that he is NOT originally from Mi (I am), but from New Orleans. Not often does his grammar reflect it (except with y'all) but he has only lived north of the mason dixon line for 5 years. :-)

again: Sheryl not Joby.
We live near Mt. Pleasant. We have a son turning 18 in June and twin daughters who turn 15 in June. Elizabeth is obviously much loved and our other children spoil her terribly (we love it). Joby and I are both registered nurses: he in the OR working often with hearts, me in labor and delivery, NICU, and pediatrics. I am not working at the moment however, just staying home and loving our children. When Elizabeth was born we found out almost immediately that it was believed she had DS. We also found out she has a VSD and ASD and will need to have surgery to repair. At the moment we are just waiting and watching and loving.

Welcome to you too, Sheryl! My parents live in Mt. Pleasant on the reservation . . . and I visit often to gamble once in a while too! I live about an hour south, near Lansing. I believe the Special Olympics summer games are going on right now, this weekend, in Mt. Pleasant. Jessie

Joby and Sheryl, Welcome from your neighbor to the South....Indiana. Come on in the water is fine...you will find a lot of knowledgeable people here who are always willing to help and listen!! Collin my 3rd child (now 7) also surprised us at birth by being Chromosomally enhanced. He was also born with ASD and VSD and had ASD repair at the age of 2.5 years. All I can say about that surgery is I would have open heart surgery before having his tonsils and Adenoids out again....But, that's a different story/thread!!! Glad to have you here and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. Connie

Joby and Sheryl, Howdy y'all! I live south of Detroit but still consider myself to be a native Texan. My entire family still lives in Texas so howdy y'all doesn't sound the least bit odd to me! Congratulations on your little girl. We knew Sarah would be born with Ds and an av canal defect so there were no surprises. Boy, do I ever wish I had been a nurse when she was an infant! She was very ill with heart failure and was on an ng tube. She also was on three different heart meds given at six different times in the day/night. That was tough! Today, Sarah is a 5 year old who is full of personality. We have really enjoyed our little girl. Chris

Joby and Sheryl, welcome to Uno Mas. I don't remember when I found this place, but the people are wonderful! My granddaughter will be two this week, and we knew about her DX before her very early arrival. She is the light of my life, and these folks humor me when I start telling my "brag" stories. I guess grandmas are allowed, right?
