I know that up until now, you have only heard Jodi talk about her 2 sons. Most of the time, it has been about her 8 year old, Ryan, a challenging young "angel" with Down Syndrome.
Well, I am here to set the record straight. Having been married to Jodi for 18 years, she still refers to me as one of her boys. I think that's a good thing (at least some of the time). Maybe it's because I still like baseball/softball, monster trucks, concerts, and video games, among other interests.
My name is Larry. I have been a stay at home Dad for the last 4 years. I do enjoy those things listed above. I have been a Angel's baseball fan since I was a wee child, and I have managed to turn my wife and boys into fans as well. Ryan's favorite player is Guerrero. I have been known to play softball from time to time. As a matter of fact, I am going through one of those phases where I want to get on a team again Maybe I should look at the 40+ leagues (I'm 42, and used to be pretty quick, but I think I would only be quick in the 40+ now).
As far as monster trucks, I have enjoyed taking my older son for years to see the shows. I started taking Ryan to the Anaheim Stadium show a few years ago, and this year I took him with his older brother to the World Finals in Las Vegas. This was the 7th year in a row that I have got tickets for this show (see monsterjamonline.com). Ryan seemed to enjoy it, and therefore will join us again next year.
I went to a lot of concerts in the 80's, and I have gone to revisit a few of those artists in the last year, but most of my concert involvement these days is volunteering for Christian concerts and festivals (see celebrationconcerts.com & spiritwestcoast.org). I have been helping out with handful of shows a year for the last 11 years. My older son really enjoys attending these shows, and helping out when needed.
And yes, i do indulge in a video game here and there. Sometimes even with the kids.
Any-who, enough about me, I am here to try to get some help for Ryan, and my stressed out wife. I'm sure you have seen her recent posts. I will be looking for advice as well. If you know of any good behavior specialists or good support groups in the LA, or Orange County areas, please let me know. Or, if you're a Dad in this area that would like to get together (with or without the kids), send me a message. In addition to the things listed above, we also have Disneyland and Universal Studios annual passes, which Ryan loves to use.
Well, I think that is enough rambling for now. I look forward to hearing from some of you.
