Anyone see the spot about Walgreens on NBC Nightly News a couple of days ago?
It was a great story. One of the Walgreens' distribution centers was built with the intention of hiring mostly people with disabilities. That distribution center is 20% more productive than any other in their network! I believe it is one of Walgreens' VP's that has a son with autism and he came up with this idea because of the worry we all have - what's going to happen to our child when they get older?
One of the women they spotlighted has Ds. She was an older woman and spoke so clearly. They showed her at the end of the day getting on the bus to go home and the driver asked her how her day was. She responded "I had a GREAT day!".
Very nice story. Nice idea. Made me want to visit my local Walgreens just a little more.

YES! I saw that ...it is in South Carolina...didn't recognize the town...but probably a suburb of one of the larger ones cuz lots of folks with disabilities there.
It looks like a terrific place to work...not at all like a workshop because they also employ non disabled...all at the same wages...and the people all have different kinds of disablites...not just mental retardation.
Thumbs up to Walmart on this one...guess it helps that the VP of Walmart has an autistic son.

One more reason for me to take that very short walk to the brand spanking new Walgreen's at the end of my street!!!! Today was opening day with the official "Grand Opening" in a couple of weeks!
I am loving the convenience of the store already - sent the kids up once and then I went up myself when I realized I didn't have Band-aids or Neosporin for the latest round of road-rash from the girls playing tackle football in the street - Yes, on hard top!!!
