Emily's home room teacher called me yesterday afternoon (I had told her the day before that I'd love to talk to her about Emily's first full week if she ever had time to call me) and we talked about how the transition to high school was going for Em.
First of all, she said she was still working on getting Emily into an appropriate class for more inclusion, because the child care class was at the same time as Emily's reading class.........the only class she has right now with her best bud from her old school, and we did not want to change that. Long story, but I'm happy with all of that. She talked with the dance teacher, who told her that Emily is doing GREAT in her class and it's obvious that she totally loves that class.
She then said...............do you think Emily is just a bit stubborn? (Cute, because she asked it so tentatively. Like she thought it would make me mad, lol) I said........Ummmm she has a stubborn streak a mile long!!!!!! She said they were working on Math yesterday morning and Emily got frustrated with it and just quietly closed her book, pulled out her MP3 player from her purse and sat back; ready to listen to music!!!! I said "Oh NO she didn't"!!! But, apparently she did. So, we'll be having a backpack/purse check before we leave the house each day!
All in all, the teacher said everyone she had talked to felt very confident that Emily had adjusted very well to life as a high school student............WHEW!!!!! And she doesn't sigh loudly anymore when we drop Jordan off at her old school. What a relief for me!

Oh my goodness. Sneaking iPod/MP3 players into school IS genetic!

Glad everything is going well for Emily. It also makes things better for mom. Courtney will be starting high school in 2 weeks so I am hoping that things will go well for her. She just finished summer program yesterday. I always have a hard time getting her to go to school. We pull up in front of the school and she refuses to get out of my car. Sometimes we can talk her into it and sometimes we can't.

LOL...... mp3 sneaking may not be genetic..... just totally age related!!!! We are adamant about checking bags leaving the house including Alison's who has tried to sneak out with all sorts of things!!!!
Glad all is well!

Oh Susan!!! I can't begin to tell you how happy I am for you and how excited I am for Emily. Pulling out the MP3 player during math...well that's just classic. How many of the other students would have loved to do just that!!!

Abby's brother is a senior this year, and the next oldest child is only three so big brother is the only one starting on a great adventure. I'm just sitting here wondering how another grandchild is already a senior in high school. That leads me to wonder how my life is flashing by at the speed of light!
I'm so glad that high school started off so well for Emily. I love the MP3 story as it sounds all too familiar to me.

I am pretty proud of my high schooler today! I just got an email from the teacher of her dance class. I was just a bit concerned about that class because, lol as all of you who went to the NDSC conference can attest, Emily loves to dance to her OWN beat!!! She really has never been one to get out in the middle of the dance floor and join everyone, so I wasn't sure how she would do in this class. Here is the first paragraph of the email; the last paragraph was just a request to send $$ for her dance clothes/shoes.
"Emily is an absolute joy to have in class! She always has the biggest smile and works so diligently.I remember Emily from years and years ago at Camp Horizon where I was a junior counselor, so I was excited to see her in my class. She's grown into a beautiful young lady!"
She's really off to a good start! And more importantly, she is going without fussing about it!
