I'm pathetic! I've never done this before, but I have it all reasoned out in my head why it was okay today. When my two older kids started kindy, I worked for our school district. I knew everyone. We've only been in KY a little over a year. I don't know anyone in the new school, and all of the IEP mess has me on edge.
Today, when the big yellow bus swallowed up JT and Grace, I told the bus driver I was going to follow him. He said "oh".
Big transition year for us. My oldest is off to middle school. Grace switched schools to be with JT and JT started kindy, and Mom is home by herself. How in the world did they grow up so fast?!

Dawn, You bring back memories to me....when my older kids first started kindy, I took pics of them getting on the bus. Once on, I flew to my car, followed the bus, jumped out of the car when they pulled up to school to unload, and was there taking pics of them getting OFF the bus. The look on their face was priceless....they probably thought, wow...how did mom get here so fast! Never underestimate the power of a determined, apprehensive mom. They are now in their twenties, and my grandaughter will be starting preschool this September. And my daughter is just as apprehensive as I was...she'll be taking her to school that morning, and I'm sure will be a nervous wreck till she comes home. The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree! I laughed when you said you told the bus driver you were going to follow him....you were just being considerate. LoL.! Hope the kids have a terrific first week back!

I've done that. No regrets. Do regret NOT following the bus a couple of times. But following the bus is not a problem in my book. -- Bob

Don't blame you in the least, Dawn, I probably would have done the same thing. Although don't think I would have had the guts to tell the driver, I would probably have just snuck along behind him! ;D

I got a sleeping, full of marker kindergarten boy home today on the big yellow bus. No glasses though. The teacher was embarased but I told her I can handle lost glasses much more than a lost boy.
One day down, how many years to go?!
Thanks for letting me share! Dawn

Oh I remember the third day of pre-kindergarten. It was my son's first experience with an afternoon program. He got off the bus, took a few steps and collapsed on the driveway. I was scared to death that it was heat exhaustion. After scooping him up and running into the house administering cold cloths and water, he looked at me and signed "nap" and promptly fell dead to the world asleep.
One of those precious moments I will never forget.

I think bus following makes perfect sense!!! I'm just surprised you warned the driver........but then, you wouldn't want him to call 911 to report the woman who made every turn he made!!

I've always wanted to follow the bus too, but I'm like A., I threw them to the wolves !!
My thought on following the bus has always been, "if I don't trust the bus driver, I never will and panic about how safe they are with the bus driver", so far I've had no problems with the bus company or bus driver (knock on wood). Last years bus drivers for both the kids (since we moved) have been wonderful and made sure my kids or any of the kids on the bus feel safe. Betty's bus driver and aide from last year are trying to push to get her back on their bus for this year, which will make me soooooo happy and definitely Betty too !!

LOL, my husband thought it was cute and unlike me to tell the bus driver I was going to follow the driver. I had three reasons I told him, the first I didn't want him to think I had forgotten something and to stop or worry why I was following him, the 2nd being the school is out of our neighborhood, I wanted to see how long the bus ride was going to be. He gets on the bus at 6:20 am to be at school at 7:15....the 3rd was I wanted him to know that I'm a Mom that WILL follow the bus, and I mean business. Not that I had any reason to doubt that he wasn't the best bus driver in the world, but for crying out loud the bus stopped and sucked up my babies!
I did not follow the bus today. I did not go to school today either. I was even away from the house today, and left my cell phone in the car for a bit.
