Minus one wedding ring (left in Indianapolis), one baby doll (left in Ogalalla, NE), one child (left in Montana), plus one speeding ticket (Thermopolis, WY).
It was a whirlwind trip that's for sure! After leaving KC on Sunday, we took off to Montana to drop off The Boy at grandpa's house. Montana is beautiful, but that drive is killer from there back to Michigan.
We drove up Beartooth Mountain's switchbacks and Miss Ellie got car sick, guess she's like her momma there. I was living on Dramamine throughout the whole trip, so I was ok.
Jason was so excited when we turned the last corner to go to his grandpa's house. It's been over 3 years since he's been there, but he knew where he was. Back when Brian and Jason first moved to Montana (about 4 years ago), they took a drive up the Beartooth Mtn range and stopped at a souvenior shop in Wyoming, called Top of the World, and Brian had bought him a bow and arrow. When we pulled up to this same souvenior shop on this trip, Jason looked at Brian and made the gesture that he was shooting a bow. Guess he doesn't forget a thing!!!!
He's having a blast hanging out with his grandpa. Grandpa has been letting him drive the lawn mower around the yard. I guess grandpa was following him around the house videotaping him driving the mower (it was in low gear). He decided to not follow him and wait for him to come back around the house to video tape him. Jason came around the house in high gear and hauling butt across the yard. Jason's eyes were big as saucers and grandpa's not sure if he was more scared or Jason. Can't wait to see that video!!! LOL
They live on an 1100 acre ranch so there's plenty to do ... feed horses, help fix pivots, check the irrigation ditches, and drive the 4-wheeler everywhere. Brian is having a very hard time with him being gone, but I just keep reminding him that he's having a great time and he will be back before we know it.
I left them two cameras - one for Jason to take pictures with and one for them to take pictures of Jason, so it should be fun to see those.
As far as the rest of the trip, we had drove through WY on the way there so we were able to stop and see a cousin that moved there last year. She was so happy to see us. Jason has always just loved her and he didn't want to leave her. On the way home we drove through South Dakota and there was nothing but bikes! It was bike week in Sturgis and I have never seen so many motorcycles.
We are very glad to be home. Got home late last night and I think we both got teary-eyed when we got into our own bed!! LOL It really wasn't as awful as I thought it was going to be. It was very hard having two kids in diapers and needing to warm formula bottles every few hours. We agreed to not try a trip like that for a few years. It was hardest on the two little ones - they were stuck in their car seats for way too long (yes, Laura, I had them buckled in the way you told me to!).
