has anyone used the "bumbo" seat I've been seeing around? It's supposed to help a baby sit up. I know parents who have used them with their typical children with good results, but wondering about those with DS and how early it might help. sheryl

I've tried William in my friend's Bumbo seat several times, the first time he was about 5 months old, he looked so uncomfortable and bent over I got him straight back out again even now at 8 months he just doesn't seem right in it somehow, don't know why maybe his back and neck are not strong enough. My friend's baby Ruby (not DS) was happy in it from about 3 months. So I know they do work ;D Maybe you can borrow one to try? Lorraine

Joshua practically lived in his Bumbo until he was almost two. I thought it was wonderful for him to be able to see the world in an upright position. Even when he started sitting up alone, he was more "upright" in his Bumbo. Here are a couple of pictures of him sitting in his Bumbo seat. ;D share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AaMmjJk3ctVED0

Christine and Kelly, About how old were your children when they could use it? Elizabeth is 5months old, has fair head control, but has got to where she DOES NOT like to lay back... wants to sit up and play. sheryl

I can't remember for sure. I know we didn't start using it until he was past the age where you'd normally expect a child to be able to sit alone. Maybe eight months old or so? I'm sure we could have used it earlier if we had known about it.

I think it's just great that you are already to that point so soon after her surgery!!! She must be doing great.
Jake (non-Ds) is 5 months and he just now is starting to like sitting in it - and he's a big boy with good head control.

Wow, your expecting me to use my brain which is out of commission due to pregnancy. Hmmm, I'm thinking we started as early as 3 or 4 months...but I remember getting good usage out of it closer to 5 or 6 months. We would put her into it and pull one of those plastic tv tables to it to do therapy and play with her. What a great invention. Now they have tables you can order that attach right onto it. Another popular baby brand came out with one that comes with a table.

Since V is #3, we pretty much had everything except a bumbo seat...I found one on sale at target before I had her...I'm excited that it sounds like a good purchase!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the tray. It is a very cool little addition to the seat itself. Also, you don't have to order it on line anymore, Babies R Us is carrying the seats and the trays.

I bought Abby a bumbo seat when she was nine months old. I believe her PT had one and recommended it. She absolutely loved her chair. She sat in it while mommy got ready. There was a mirrow so Abby "used" the makeup brush and "applied" lip gloss.
Later I bought my typical grandson a bumbo chair when he was born. He and his mother both were crazy about it.
From everything I've seen they are wonderful.

Our son Nathan is almost seven months old, and he likes his bumbo seat. He had heart surgery in July, so the hardest part is getting him out of his seat. We are not supposed to lift him under his arms until mid September. Getting him out of the seat can be a little tricky. We also use the seat when feeding him baby food.
