Hi Friends,
I have a question about your experience with kids of a school age (from 7 and so on) with DS after school hours.
When Luke was in kindergarten last year, we kept him in Kinder care after the school. He had some issues at first, but the teachers and director helped to resolve them.
This year we decided to try a Latchkey program, but people there do not want him (they did not want him from the beginning), because of his disability.
Finally, after lots of meetings and feeling out of huge list of questions, they took him (so we lost his place in Kinder care).
After first week they told me that he needs more attention than others, so they can not provide him their services and I need to look for another care for our son.
I am sure they just do not want him because of DS, they even do not want to give him a transition time. One week is too little for him to get to use to new rules and new people.
In other hands, how can he accept the people who are hostile for him?
Oh, well, what I can do? I was very upset after they told me that we need to look for another care for him.
It is so hard to realize that your son is rejected because of his disability. They want "normal" children only in their Latchkey. They are so bad, I would say other words, but want to be polite at Uno Mas, you know what I mean and how I would call them.
So, my question is: Where do you keep your school age kids with DS after school at day time if you both working?
Thanks for your responses,
Alice
