Did anyone catch Larry King last night? Jenny McCarthy (the actress) and Holly Robinson Peete were on talking about their children who have been diagnosed with autism. They also had a physician, who has a child with autism also, and has dedicated his career to finding out the hows, whys, and "cures" for this neurological disease. My hubby watched it, and was quite impressed. I wasn't home, but I read the transcripts from the show. Alot of information and theories.....Jenny McCarthy is the spokesperson for TACA (talking about curing Autism), so I went to their website. It was quite interesting, and with Eric possibly having a dual diagnosis I want to check this out more. But I gotta say, my head is spinning this week. Some people think Eric is autistic...his teacher thinks its his hearing(tubes being put in on Oct.8), one speech therapist thinks he has apraxia, one speech therapist doesn't...some think ADHD...some auditory processing screwed up...whew! So many angles...thoroughly confused! I just know him as ERIC...my youngest son! We go to the pediatric developmental doc next week...and will share all these "diagnosis" with her and see what she thinks. Maybe then I'll have some direction....thanks for letting me vent!

Dolly, I've been watching a LOT more daytime TV lately, and Jenny has really made the circuit in the past week or so. She was also on Oprah and several other programs. I know several people who are using the same diet she described for their children with autism, and they really feel that they can tell a big difference when the diet is followed strictly. There is a lot of info out there to process! Vent away any time. And let us know about the doctor's appointment! Susan

Dolly, try to keep in mind (so your head doesn't spin too fast ) that things like ADHD and Autism are a "set of traits" and things CAN over lap. Even with Bi Polar and Aspergers can have some of the same traits as ADHD and other things. Then, kids w/Autism, ADHD, Aspergers, and even Bi Polar can have auditory processing isssues, sensory issues, ect... the list can go on and on. Only a medical professional trained enough in this stuff can make a DX, NOT a teacher, therapist, or any other school professional. So, they shouldn't even be saying "we think Eric has..... " or legally they can be in hot water They make medical criteria and that trained doctor makes the best, informed DX based on your child. A.
