I'm starting to "pack" and "organize" for our Disney trip. One of the first things that I thought I needed was to ask you guys about locks/alarms for hotel doors.
A month or so ago we rented a cabin, and the lock on the door was on the door handle. It would automatically unlock when you pull the handle up.....Having a wandering child......GULP. Before we went to bed we pulled the sofa in front of the door. We did call the front desk first, they didn't see the problem.
So how have you guys handled hotel room doors?
Luckily most have the security chain, but every once in a while we stay at a place that doesn't. If there is something I can add to my bag of tricks, I sure will, so I don't have to sleep with one eye open!
Thanks, Dawn

Dawn, Been there done that!!! Collin left our room when he was about 3 unattended and without permission while we were in Alabama and I was talking to our Susan on the the phone. The lock on the door was just as you described. Let me just say (most parents would not agree with me) how I handled it. He really got chewed out after I got him back and YES he did get is bottom spanked. He never offered to leave "that" room again without asking. It was a long 7 days after that because I was on edge, we did make him sleep with us because I was afraid that he would try and leave after we were all asleep. If your bed room has a lock you may try making him sleep in the room with you on the floor. Sorry I can't be of anymore help. Connie

I have seen little alarms that you can stick to the inside of doors so that it goes off when opened. You can set it so it just rings like a doorbell so you dont freak out the other guests! The adhesive might be too strong to remove when you go home, so I would just use some good clear packaging tape to put it up. Then you can take it with you and not leave your mark! I know they have them at Wal-Mart. Have a GREAT time!!

you can also put a wedge (one of those triangle things) so he can't pull the door open. of course, since they're visible...he may be able to remove it, and then you're back where you started...but maybe you can camoflage (sp?) by throwing a towel or something over it? they also make alarms similar to what tiffany mentioned but they hang on the door...things that are targeted towards woman who travel alot...the idea is if someone tried to break INTO your room it would go off, but i would imagine it would work either way. my sis in law has one...can't remember where she got it? Kohls or Target? cant find the one she has but here are a few others: www.misdefenseproducts.com/Portable-Door-Alarms-p-1-c-377.htmlwww.misdefenseproducts.com/Portable-Volumetric-Alarm-p-16259.htmlhappy travels & good luck! laurie

Been there done that!!! At the uno-reunion in Pitt. last year. The alarm went off..I went out the door at about 6am (in my t shirt)..got John-John...door locked behind me...knocked on my door so girls would wake up & let us back in. All to say alarms work! I use the stick ones from Walmart or Costco. I take along duct tape, & tape it high on the door & set it before I go to bed!!!!!!!! That way you don't ruin their paint job by using the sticky on the back. Pat P.S. Remember to grab the key on the way out & to thank God no one was in the hall

Are you staying on Disney property? They are really eager to help with special needs kids, when you reach the right person. Give them a call and e-mail. You may have to ask a few times to reach the person who can help.

Just got back from running errands.
I picked up a set of the door/window alarms to keep in my traveling bag of tricks. The guy at the store recommended using the 3M command adhesive strips. Perfect! so I've got a pack of adhesive strips in my bag too.
We are staying at a Disney property, but are planning on staying one night on the drive down and the way back "somewhere". Those somewhere stops are the ones that I have to be ready for :0
Oh Pat, thanks for the tip of making sure I can get back INTO the room, LOL!
Thanks for all of your ideas and tips! I love it here! Dawn
